Anyone anxious about new food?

Recommended Posts

hi all, I am moving onto soft foods and then regular foods. I had a bit of pain for about 5 minutes today after eating something too fast. Now I am really anxious about anything more than puree and hurting my pouch.

Did anyone have anxiety about moving to the next step in your diet?

surgery date 1/17/17

Yes, I was very anxious. I had to make sure to follow mindful eating guidelines given by my nutritionist (no eating at desk or while watching tv or looking at phone/tablet/computer, putting down the fork after each bite and chewing to applesauce consistency before swallowing). Another thing a friend told me was to make sure to have lubricant for certain foods. I was eating turkey thigh and had a lot of discomfort but have avoided that by making a sort of turkey salad with light mayo. Also even though I was told not to drink while eating I take very small sips of Water while eating salad.

I am going to be moving from my Protein shake and Water diet to purees this week and I am both excited and nervous.

I think I've become very comfortable with how simple my food choices are with such a tight restriction that opening the door to other things is kinda scary...

Don't be scared of trying new foods. You'll find what works and what doesn't, and as long as you chew a lot and eat slowly your stomach should be okay.

Another week and a half on purée, then I move to soft foods. I'm nervous- I too had some pain the last two days after eating - think I ate too much at one sitting, and I sure felt it in my chest!! Sleeved 1/12/17.

Hi Jill! When were you able to introduced salads? What do you put in it and any dressing? Ty

Not OP, but I tried a very small salad last night. I had 3 bites of iceberg lettuce with ranch and chewed extremely well. I had no problems with it. I was sleeved 12/21.

I was allowed to have red and green leaf lettuce only after only 2 weeks, but I didn't want it. I started with chicken Cesar salad incidentally when a friend offered me some at around 6 weeks postop. I chewed it very well and even had a few little crunchy croutons. I love the crunch of the romaine hearts. It felt odd at first to chew salad to applesauce consistency in my mouth but now I think I love salad more than I ever did before. I used to inhale salads and often wasn't fully digesting them (tmi).

I know what mean about chewing, I notice that with everything. It's weird and most often kinda grosses me out when chewing that long. Any idea if we have to chew like this long term? I'm hoping after 6 month/1 year I can chew well, but not to mush. I'm scared to try salad, chicken Caesar sounds sooo good though.

chicken Caesar is good but the chewing is essential. I think it will be long term with the chewing unless we are really stretching out that hole between the stomach and intestine. I get what you means that its weird and sometimes gross, but with the salad i dont feel like it is gross.
I tried a piece of Breakfast sausage this morning and could barely take it after a few bites. Never again. My favorites still remain -- retried Beans and lean beef chili with pinto beans and Greek yogurt. I'm okay with this after trying new things and not enjoying them at all.

I had my 1-month follow-up and was moved to soft goods. I was a bit taken aback because I thought my notes said liquid, puréed, then regular good. I'm learning that my tummy probably wound heal fully for another 2-5 weeks. I see people on IG eating all kinds of things so I guess I'm not as anxious. I don't want to bust my staples.

I'm on soft food and still terrified to try new things. I just had meatloaf tonight for the first time and did good so far with it.

I went in yesterday for my 3 week post op visit(had to be hospitalized) and the surgeon told me to start trying crumbly meats like ground beef and turkey. I almost said lady are you crazy. I'm afraid to try anything. I've only had egg drop Soup and pudding. I was afraid to do scrambled eggs this morning. I don't know when I will be able to move on.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
