TammyLee66 152 Posted February 4, 2017 I have Kaiser and they require a 12 week class during this time we go once a week To learn about everything and talk to surgeon and I was told halfway through we start all pre opt stuff. And we have to I think least 10% of our bodyweight Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

kokofamfour 42 Posted February 4, 2017 They said I had to lose 21 lbs. I ended up losing 9. They still approved me. They seemed to stress that they wanted to see positive changes Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

nlmguerrero 50 Posted February 4, 2017 The 6 months flies by... especially if you are trying to lose the weight they asked you to. I lost 25 pounds in the 6 months and my recovery was beyond smooth Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Itsmytime23 50 Posted February 4, 2017 I was a lucky one n only needed 3 mos with no weight loss requirement - whew!! BUT my friend had to lose 10% of EXCESS weight n not body weight - this seems more realistic for people already acknowledging they have a problem with food. The insurance companies really need to standardize preop testing /stuff so uniform for all. How can someone not need a preop diet and someone else need 4 weeks.. I'm only 8 days so happy with that but there sb a norm established and then have yr Dr tweaking for the individual, Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
KendraLynne 38 Posted February 4, 2017 I had to wait 6 months but had a appointment every month with my weightloss doctors. It flew by! In the beginning it felt like this is going to be forever. I kept myself busy and did what I had to do. I was happy it wasn't 9 months like some people had to wait! I lost 40lbs in 6 months. They didn't tell me I had to lose in order to get the surgery. They wanted to make lifestyle changes and that lead me to losing weight. Now I'm almost 2 weeks post op with the sleeve and I love it!! _Kate_ 2,224 Posted February 4, 2017 Six months is time to plan, read, research and prepare yourself for the change. It will fly by !!
sleevinpops 303 Posted February 4, 2017 I had a 6 month process, and at first I was disappointed, but now I'm happy to have had that time to really prepare. This is a major lifestyle change. If it were quick, I don't think I would be as prepared mentally , physically or spiritually. I was able to create health habits, like walking every day. Cutting out sweets, and learning to eat properly, quitting smoking etc. I am scheduled to have my surgery next Thursday (woohoo!) and feel that I am in the right place now to take this next step. After all, this is a journey, and not an overnight quick fix. In hind sight, I can't believe how fast the time has gone, but I appreciate all I have learned, and those that are supporting (including those I have met here). I believe it will help me to be successful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
Mikkos 22 Posted February 4, 2017 I started my 6 month diet at the end of August, and my last dietitian appointment is this Monday. At first I was upset that I had to wait 6 months, but now I'm grateful for the time. Now I've had a chance to really understand the lifestyle changes and get used to them. I feel really confident that I will be successful after the surgery, and I don't think I would have the same attitude without the time spent reading, researching, and changing. Also, the time has gone by really fast! Now I'm just hoping that everything is approved by my insurance, and I get a surgery date for next month. Good luck to you, and try to stay positive! SBowen135 28 Posted February 4, 2017 My insurance required the six months , which actually went by pretty fast thank you Lord. hopekate 85 Posted February 4, 2017 I have two weigh ins left out of the six months. My last weigh in is March 27th. They let me know at my last appointment that my surgery date will likely be a month after my last weigh in because I have to schedule a surgical clearance, a meeting with the anesthesiologist, and a final blood test. I was surprised at all of these last requirements because, according to the check list they gave me, all of my pre-op testing was complete. So it looks like my process is really 7 months. Waiting is not my strong suit, but I'm making some positive changes to my diet and mindset. Most of these months I've been trying to focus on Protein and lowering my sugar intake. The promise of a new tool to help me achieve a healthy lifestyle keeps me plugging along toward the ultimate goal.
