Jsharks23 0 Posted January 19, 2010 I've got kids I rough-house, ride motorcycles, work out a lot, no problems. My doc has done a couple of Oakland Raiders and pro MMA guys, no problems reported. Are you saying that there are NFL players and UFC fighters with Lap Band? If so, who?
Huckleberry Gal 0 Posted January 21, 2010 I know/train w/ a few UFC and WEC fighters. They looked into it for me and asked around and no one had any info on fighters that have had any type of WLS. Thats why I was apprehensive about having it done, bc i didnt know the effect it would have on my training. Plus I think the other problem would be w/ UFC fighters is the weight classes. You have to maintain or get bounced. There are a few fighters that would get wrecked in a lower weight class. IDK about NFL players, but its not all that likely for pro fighters. AirKuhl 1 Posted February 4, 2010 Are you saying that there are NFL players and UFC fighters with LAP-BAND®? If so, who? Yes there are, although he didn't specify whether it was UFC or some other MMA organization. My doc didn't share their names and I didn't ask. I wouldn't want him to share my name either. Very true about going into lower weight classes, but remember that a band with a mild fill is an excellent way to maintain existing weight if you struggle a lot, as opposed to losing a lot of weight. drudley 1 Posted February 5, 2010 This was one of my biggest concerns too. I was going to go through with surgery anyway and if I had to stop TKD and MMA then so be it. But this is very encouraging for me too. I am in San Antonio and have just completed 4 of 6 weightloss visits. I will be using Dr. JJ Gonzales and hope surgery will be in May or June of 2010. That is the plan anyway.
