I did that years ago and it worked for weigh in but darn insurance company denied me at the time due to I didn't have proof of years of being over 40 bmi, lol. So five years later I had surgery in states n didn't need ankle weights lol.

Pay for it don't gain weight... Go to Mexico... There good trust me...just make sure you do a lot of homework on your surgeon.....

Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

oh no, i meant ankle weights for the weigh in... rather than actually gain the weight :)

I opted self pay in Mexico due to my insurance making me jump through hoops. I didn't have a co-morbidity that was required, other than possible sleep apnea, but it was undiagnosed. It took a month and a half just to get an appointment with them for the sleep study, and then they had to reschedule and it was another month long wait. I got fed up and started researching Mexico. I'd already tried many different 'natural' options for the 5-6 years prior and was sick and tired of playing the waiting game. I went with Dr. Illan, paid $4400, and couldn't be happier with my decision than I am.

I self paid because my very expensive gold plan on the exchange won't even remotely cover anything related to weight loss. I looked at going to Mexico, but even though I'm in Texas, I couldn't get over the idea of being so far away from home in the event of complications. So I chose a very good Dr. in Austin, 30 minutes from home. Total out of pocket was a little over $10k. Since my Dr knew I was self-pay, he was very cognizant of any extra expense so I didn't even stay the night in the hospital. Of course, if my after surgery recovery was slow in any way I would have stayed. But I responded perfectly, and was home by 2 in the afternoon. I've been complication free and so far, it's been the best money I've ever spent.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
