Not surgery related but I just wanted to say hi from another South Dakota native! Born and raised in Sioux Falls but I moved to ND for college when I was 18 and have been here since! Glad to hear you're doing well, I hope my surgery goes that great!

I just had RNY on 6/21/17. I'm in Copperas Cove, Texas. I'm right near Fort Hood. Good luck with your surgery and I hope you get your date in August! Keep us posted!

Things are going good. I still have pain in my left side, but my doctor said that's normal. I had gas pain for about 8 days and walking is what helped that the most. I'm on puréed foods now and so far no issues. I'm limited on my diet per my doctor. It's a small list of purées, but it's not too bad. I can't have mashed potatoes, puddings, thick Soups, certain veggies, and certain fruits. I'm allowed to do cardio now, but no weight lifting yet. I'm limited on my cardio due to a broken foot, so I'm going to check out a gym with aquatic classes for my cardio.

It amazes me how different dr's are when it comes to what we can and can not have ... sugar free/fat free pudding is on my list of ok foods along with creamy soups

Yeah, there are a wide variety of differences from doctor to doctor, from pre op to all post op stages of diets.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
