Sugar free cakes, cookies, sweets in general

After about a year post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery your body changes again. Your intestines realize that the stomach is no longer processing fats and sugars and steps up to the plate and picks up that function. I am 3 1/2 years post-op RNY and I discussed my strategy in the Maintenance phase and the use of artificial sweeteners in the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

I've not tried this, but heard of people buying a sugar free cake mix and mixing it with 12 oz diet soda. Only these 2 ingredients. Bake as muffins or muffin tops or as a cake according to time and temp on the box. When cool top with sugar free frosting or Cool Whip. I have not tried this yet.

So I'm wondering does anybody enjoy the sugar free sweets or does it cause dumping? I know everyone is different but I just want to know if this will be tolerable one day?

I do the sugar free sweets as an occasional treat! [emoji1327] i found them especially helpful at Christmas when I had to watch everyone enjoying Desserts and Cookies. During that time, I tried Sugar Free Chocolate chip cookies and sugar free Reese's cups. I loved both and they tasted like the real thing, so I didn't feel deprived during the holidays. I also found my local frozen yogurt shop has sugar free froyo, and I have enjoyed a little of that on two special occasions.

4 months out, I make cakes and sweets for a living so I normally have a bite to taste and make sure all is well. The sugar doesn't bother me at all and a bite satisfies my craving (not like before where I would have a whole slice or cupcake ). I never go near sugar free foods because I try to avoid chemicals and processed foods from a health perspective http://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/artificial-sweeteners-sugar-free-but-at-what-cost-201207165030 . What i have noticed is that a good night's sleep and eating a small meal every 2-3 hours stops me from craving sweets or chips or other unhealthy Snacks the way I used to pre-surgery. The days when i dont sleep well i crave chocolate and chips. The days where i forget to eat because I'm too busy, i will suddenly crash and want chocolate. As long as i pay attention to my sleep and eating habits, im much more in control of any bad cravings and I will actually go without sweets for a while (this was impossible pre-surgery). Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do, wish you all the best :-)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
