Lavieboheme84 11 Posted February 2, 2017 Hi All I am lactose intolerant and also have a poor reaction to whey and artificial sugars. As you can imagine--this really effects my ability to find a good Protein shake/protein powder for pre-op and post/op. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can use for both the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and then post op? Also--I've heard stories about people who've had gastric sleeve that developed lactose intolerance---has anyone experienced/heard the opposite? Where the lactose intolerance disappeared? (wishful thinking) Any advice welcome!

(wishful thinking) Any advice welcome! Hello!! I am also lactose intolerant. I did a lot of reading on what type of Protein Powder to get that is a whey isolate. I purchased the Syntrax nectar protien. It's actually good and it doesn't bother me. I had my surgery on Monday (1/30/17). Berry78 4,261 Posted February 4, 2017 Some people don't manufacture the enzyme that allows them to break down lactose. The surgery isn't going to fix it. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

Jacqueline52 6 Posted February 5, 2017 My lactose intolerance worsened after surgery so always use lactose free milk and cheese. In regards to a Protein powder I use Soya Isolate which actually has more Protein than whey. Makes a great smoothie with some frozen berries! curlyinthecity 35 Posted February 5, 2017 Hi there! I have similar issues and used Jay Robb's Egg White Protein powder. I personally favor the chocolate over the vanilla. Try to get the sample packets at Vitamin Shoppe, as it's a little pricey. I mixed with 8oz Lactaid (label suggests 11 but tasted fine to me) during my pre op diet. Best of luck!
