Meal ideas and do's and don'ts for food ?

Recommended Posts

Check out pinterest for some good ideas. For example, here is a link to my board where I post all recipes I like and have tried most of the ones that I am allowed. I will be 2 months 2/21 and am on stage there where I still can't eat Pasta, rice, beef or pork. Have fun and get creative! :)

I eat a lot of chicken, ground turkey burgers without the bun, lean steak, tuna, eggs, veggies- all kinds, fruit and I drink a daily Protein Shake. Occasionally I will eat turkey chili without Beans. I'm not allowed peas, corn, potatoes, rice, Pasta or any other refined carbs. Occasionally I can have whole grain carbs (max 2X a week) which may include steel cut oats, beans, quinoa, barley, etc. Also, I eat sugar free popcycles every night. It's my dessert! With the ground turkey, I add taco seasoning and make shell-less tacos. I also make chili. I eat roast, porkloin, and all other types of lean meat. I eat salmon, tilapia, and tons of grilled shrimp. I am 3 months out. With the exception of the no carbs, I eat quite a variety of foods.

Wow, thank for all the examples, I will put this to use immediately. I basically eat farina/cream of wheat in morning , a premier shake for snack , tuna or some eggs for lunch, Oykos zero yogurt for snack, and either flounder or chicken for dinner so that does get very old to me especially if I'm not good in the kitchen. Those sugar free ice pops are a life saver though LoL

There's a closed group on Facebook called Rock's Kitchen. He shows awesome recipes. Go on there and ask to join. He had WLS.

I've been having success with my crockpot. I cook a whole chicken with carrots, turnips and onions, for example. Then I have chicken later for salads, etc. I'm not a huge chicken fan but it's so moist it falls apart. And it's no work at all.

I also make beef stew, without potatoes but with plenty of carrots onions and turnips again, and blend up some of the veggies to thicken the "gravy".

Taco pulled chicken, Soups...

I'm so glad I pulled the crockpot out of the cupboard! Hot healthy meals when I come home has helped me avoid bad choices from being too tired to cook.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
