Protein Shakes & what kind/Brand

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have tried a couple different brands and found that my favorite is the Premier Protein shake in chocolate. An 11 oz serving has 30 grams of Protein. It's a good shake, doesn't taste chalky at all. You can find them at quite a few different stores including Walmart and Sam's Club, with Sam's Club carrying the 12 pack for a really good price.

For unflavored Protein powder, I have tried GENEPRO, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and Isopure. So far, taste wise, I like GENEPRO the best, but was disappointed when I heard that Genepro's claims of 30 grams of protein per serving may not be true. My nutritionist said to stay away from Genepro. Therefore, out of the three brands that I've tried, Unjury and Isopure are my favorites. I used them in the full liquid stage after surgery.... mixed them in my cream of celery Soup. Now at 12 weeks post op, I still use the unflavored Protein Powder in my iced Decaf unsweet tea. Tastes great.

Hope that helps.

Pre-made shakes are unavailable for me here in Japan so I have to make all my own shakes. So far my favourite brand is Syntrax - I have their unflavoured, chocolate, and vanilla Protein powders, as well as various flavours of nectar (roadside lemonade, green apple, pink grapefruit, very berry) - they taste great, like regular juice. I also add PB2 Peanut Butter powder to my chocolate shakes for a little added flavour and protein. Except for the Nectars, I mix all my shakes with low-fat soy or unsweetened almond milk so they have a richer flavour (I'm not allowed any dairy at the moment). I also have some unflavoured Isopure but I haven't tried it yet (I'm saving it for post-op).

I bought the isolate zero carb vanilla and low carb chocolate. I have been making a bunch of different flavors by adding sugar free Jello (0.75 grams per 8 oz shake). Got some great concoctions! Cheesecake, Peanut Butter cup, etc. tastes great, high Protein and 0 sugar, LOW CARBS!

Add 4 cubes of ice, blend for a minute and you've got a smoothie! Blend for 2 minutes with ice, then freeze, you have a great dessert!

I have tried a couple of mix them your self powders. They come out tooo powdery and thick for my taste. So i read good reviews about premier Protein.

Ive tried chocolate, caramel , bananana and strawberry.

Dont really like strawberry too much.

Bananana is too banana-y for my taste.

But i totally dig the chocolate and caramel flavors.

I have not tried vanilla. So cant comment on that one.

I have the vanilla premier mix, I find the texture slightly greasy. I have yet to find a way to make it yummy. I also have Syntrax Cappuccino for my morning coffee creation (still working on it). I like the Syntrax better so far.

I really like the Premier Protein rtd shakes of chocolate and banana cream. And surprisingly the Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free powder mix isn't bad either.

I know I am in minority since everyone seems to love the Premier - I can't stand them.

I really like the Glucerna Rich chocolate which I can buy by the case at BJs. I also like the premade Isopure. All flavors are watery/fruity so it's a nice contrast. I get them at GNC but they are far more costly at $3/bottle.

Not a fan of the Premier Protein shakes either, which is a shame because I think we bought a whole case at costco and I have a lot left to get through. I do love the PB2 powder you can add for a little extra Protein and it tastes great with any chocolate shake, so hopefully I'll be able to get through them that way. For premade shakes, I prefer the EAS advantage.

I used to love making my own shakes, but I'm not far out pre op and find its so much easier right now just to be able to grab it already made out of the fridge.

I really highly recommend unflavored protein powder, too. I have only tried Unjury unflavored protein powder, and find half a scoop mixes really well with my yogurt. But I know the Isopure gets a lot of positive recommendations on the boards, so it's probably all down to taste. Whichever one you go with, it can really help to get your protein in.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
