I've heard different experiences some people say they get full quick others say their hunger doesn't change. I'm just curious as to how your meals will change. Ive heard that you are supposed to only have 3 meals a day and avoid Snacks and I'm a big snacker so that worries me

I have 3 meals and 2 to 3 Snacks per day. However, these Snacks are not the bags of chips, candy bars or other garbage I would typically snack on. Now my snacks are 2 oz of cottage cheese, or 2 oz of yogurt...things like that. My meals right now are cooked veggies, but I have not progressed to meat yet. I pretty much time every meal and snack and force myself to eat around the same time because I am actually not hungry at all since surgery. I eat only to meet my Protein goals right now, not because I am hungry.

If you have the will power to eat "snacks" like FindingCarrie said, then by all means, snack on Protein packed things...but snacking is a way to gain weight or not lose at all. this surgery allows you to eat little meals all day long so if you're not careful, you will find yourself eating tiny amounts all day...and what will that add up to at the end of the day? Oh sure, a bite here and a bite there but next thing you know, you're at 1500 calories. I literally just posted about this today on my blog...check it out :)

@@chunkymonkey123 I eat a dannon light & fit greek yogurt every single morning. I put a little bit of fresh fruit in it and then I don't eat again until lunch. I drink a Decaf green tea in the morning and that seems to curb hunger too...I don't actually FEEL hungry but I know I eat when I'm bored or cant find anything else better to do.

How do you tell the difference between actual hunger and boredom hunger lol I think that many times I eat out of boredom :/

I know that I'm not hungry because I can go an entire Saturday and not eat anything until I start shaking and almost pass out...that's not healthy either! LOL But when I'm busy and I'm not just sitting here doing nothing, I don't feel hungry...my stomach never actually "growls" anymore so I know that I'm either eating out of boredom (because I dont have anything else better to do) or I'm eating because I need nutrition... I have to be VERY careful not to sit and snack all day. It is a conscious effort for me on a daily basis.

I can totally see what you mean because I work a desk job and sometimes I am at work and it's slow and feel like I need to be snacking. However on the weekend when I am at home and out and about running errands I can go the whole morning without needing a snack !

Do you feel that after surgery you don't get hungry?? Do you still get cravings?

I eat three meals/day and have planned Snacks (there is a huge box of hot Cheetos about ten feet away from me and I'm going to move it across the hall so I'm not tempted to eat any!). Today I had some string cheese for my morning snack and 2 oz of tuna for my afternoon snack. I'm a grazer so I take teeny bites to make it last. For breakfast I have a prrotein shake or turkey bacon, sometimes a boiled egg; on the weekend I'll have eggs and bacon or oatmeal. lunch is prrotein- sometimes cottage cheese and tuna, often chicken salad, but also leftovers from dinner. Sometimes I'll have lentil soup-- although Soups fill me up really quickly. dinner is very variable-- I have three teenagers who are all learning to cook and I eat what they make on their cooking nights, although I may have to modify it (if someone makes a Pasta dish I may not eat the Pasta, but the sides; or if someone has a high-carrb dish I may fish out the Protein and eat that). It's actually pretty easy-- I can always find something. I avoid friend foods and sugarrs.

I get psychological hunger sometimes. It doesn't make me less hungry, knowing it's in my head. I will have something hot to drink and wait for it to pass. If it doesn't pass after 45 minutes, I'll eat my snack.

As for calories, it will depend on your metabolism. I'm at gw and trying to get about 10 lbs below that... I can maintain and not gain at about 1500-1600 calories per day; but I only know that because I track prrotein and carrbs (and my app also tracks calories). I've never tracked calories as my surgeon advised me not to and I'm a rule-follower. I will lose at 1100 calories a day, for sure. I know that my metabolism has changed since wls because previous to surgery I could eat 600 calories a day and maintain my weight, and I'd gain at 1100 calories. I'm starting to train for an athletic event and I don't yet know what that will do to my weight. I do know that when I first began running, my weight stabilized for a while but I dropped a dress size.

Everything will change and everyone changes in different ways. You will be amazed.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
