Giving in to food post op

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever gave in to food post op? Im only a week out and Im suppose to be only on liquid. I had a few tiny bites of things, chewed them up really well. Did I ruin everything you think? How can I fall off this wagon already!? Its only been a week! I think my problem is, i havent seen any weight loss prior to the nibbling. So, I got discouraged. :( Dang it! I feel like ive failed myself, my sleeve, my body. Urgh!

I know it's hard especially being around food or people eating, but don't give in! I'm 8 days post op so I know how you feel. If anything (and you're feeling up to it and able to get all Protein and liquids in) call your NUT see if you can advanced to the next stage, worst they could say is no. I called mine waiting to hear back but I have had a pretty smooth recovery and have been tolerating my liquids really well since 2 days post op but if she says no then oh well keep going try and keep yourself busy. When you want to nibble drink or if time and situation permit walk, walk around your house, stay strong!

It's a prescription diet given to you so you don't rip open your incisions and cause a leak, not a Jenny Craig diet. I suggest you stick to it for your safety.

I'm 6 days out and I'm NOT having any problems with drinking my Water. I almost feel like there isn't much restrictions. Anyone else experiencing this. I was told that this phase deals with everyone differently and that I'll feel more restrictions when it come to eating solid foods. Please advise

I'm the same exact way. I have no problems drinking liquids either just slips right through, I have seen some people say it's normal for this to happen to some.

It is great if you don't have trouble drinking your water! food will feel differently.

As for eating ahead of time, do NOT do it! Your life is on the line!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
