4 mos post op: looking for fresh ideas!

Recommended Posts

Sorry of this question has been asked over and over. I haven't read through all the previous topics, but I'm looking for ideas.

I am 4 months post op and allowed to try anything as long as it is sugar free and low carbs. I have been existing on salmon, tuna, soft cooked chicken, soft veggies, cheeses and eggs for 3 months now. Getting boring!!

Some things I like (and am hoping to incorporate into tasty dishes/recipes):

Artichoke

Onions

Creams

Roasted Red Bell Peppers

Porabella mushrooms

Garlic

Chicken (if soft)

All fish

Steak- if extremely tender

Eggs if not overcooked (Benedict is yummy)

Thai seasonings and sauces

Spinach

Nut butters

Bananas, Apples, Mandarins, Greek yogurts, low-cal dressings and dips

I LOVE Pasta but I won't eat it- too many carbs. Looking for an alternative that is as satisfying! Not a fan of squash though.

Cannot tolerate: ground beef or turkey, overcooked foods, breads, tough cuts of meat

Looking for new, creative and tasty combinations and recipes with the foods I like and can tolerate!

Anyone? :-)

I had RNY gastric bypass surgery. I found softer foods (such as chili and soups) went down a lot easier than harder foods (such as steak). So that is what I relied upon. I have included some recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Cauliflower Fried Rice is a standard in my house (w/shrimp)

Honestly - I get most of my ideas from Pinterest. I tend to eat the same thing over and over again.

For fruits - I work out first thing in the morning so I like to have a high calorie smoothie which contains fruit, peanut powder, seeds, and Protein powder. I get the sugar out of the way first thing! lol

You can also use califlower for your pizza crust. There are tons of recipes. The only advice I will give you is get a cheese cloth and squeeze the crap out of it. You want to get as much Water out of the cauliflower as you can. 1 small head made a small pizza. You make as many as you want and freeze it after you bake it. I also recommend flipping the crust in the oven to make sure it browns to your liking.

Relaunch Protein powder, unflavored and has changed the game for me.

Bake with it, mix it in your crystal light with 12 oz Water (which is insanely good), in your yogurt, in your coffee.

Plus it's extremely low calorie with no fat or sugar and only 90 calories. The container I buy has 39 scoops of 20g Protein in it for only $49.

10 posts and all about this Protein Powder. I smell commission.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
