The post I was trying to make was 2 years out, no weight loss, no restriction or appetite loss. my metabolism is totally destroyed and I can no longer lose weight with diet and exercise depite losing 62 pounds on my own prior to surgery. My medical issues are worse, Gerd, bone pain. Has anyone else experienced this- total surgery fail?

What does your surgeon say? Have you had tests done to determine what the issue might be?

When you say you lost NO weight, do you mean right out of the gate, in the first month or two post-op even? I have definitely never heard of that happening. I have heard of people not losing as much as they hoped or only losing a small percentage and then stalling or regaining. But I have never heard of anyone not losing SOME weight in the very beginning at least.

I actually have a friend that had a total fail. She lost about 50lbs straight out of the gate, but within 6 months of the surgery, she had gained it all back plus. I do know that had a lot of other medical issues including some neurological that they now believe played a role in the regain and lack of further weight loss.

After the weight gain post surgery, she just kind of gave up and ate what she wanted when she wanted , so that hasn't helped either.

Sounds like a good time to consider losing the band and getting a sleeve. Talk to your doc!

@@TaureanMe Can you tell us more about when your weight loss stopped? What your eating and exercise are like? Are you gaining weight or just not losing anymore?

hi @JamieLogical.. id have to say in about May of 2016. i've gained abt 3-5lbs (although i seldom weigh myself anymore) i do NOT get the Water intake that i should per day, & have only recently returned to the gym .. i strive to eat very clean, Keto almost.. don't crave sweets or starches, so that's good. i MAY not be eating enough throughout the day, but i STILL SAY that i am able to eat too much @ once!! i eat lean Protein, chicken, fish, ground turkey & veggies and/or salad..

I'm curious, when you say you have no restriction--are you saying you can eat the same volume of food you ate pre-op? Same volume of foods such as dense Protein etc and not slider foods? Or when you say no restriction are you saying you do not have a sensation of fullness or saiety?

How much do you eat in a typical day. Do you supplement Protein with shakes or bars? Have you had any tests or blood work done?

Yes, I have spoken to my surgeon and he has no answers and doesn't care now that he has been paid. My PCP also has no answers for me. I have had lab testing. I have no restriction. I could eat a whole pizza if I wanted too and I do want to but I don't do it. I am very good on my diet plan as I was prior to surgery. I thought the surgery would ensure that I wouldn't gain the weight back and I would continue to lose weight instead it halted my weight loss in its tracks. I had the sleeve not the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
