Drinking liquids not easy going

Recommended Posts

I'm about 40 days post sleeve, and don't have desire to drink water/liquids. It feels like a chore to drink and it doesn't feel like the easiest thing to do, meaning it's doesn't go down smooth, or maybe it just isn't quite comfortable. I don't have much of an appetite (thank goodness!) but I know liquids are very important and I just can't seem to get the daily quota down. Anyone else have similar situation?

I still struggle getting my Water down and I'm 5 months post op today. I find hot thicker liquids go down easier. But, I've also found if I can get past the first few sips, it gets easier. So strange to think I can feel my restriction most on simple water! Keep pushing yourself though. You need the water!

I feel the same way. I forget to drink often and have to force myself. Bad, I know, I'm trying.

Me too. I am Day 9 and I struggle each day to get the Water down. Have to focus and concentrate. Hot herbal teas are fine and so are Protein Shakes. Very strange.....but obviously same as many.

I will persevere because Previously I have never lost weight on less than about 64oz water a day. My body seems to need to be really hydrated to let go of fat.

Although you have trouble drinking, are you actually thirsty?

Hi yes very thirsty. I could glug down a jug of Water right now if only my sleeve would let me. That said I have managed 32oz so far today and there's still about 6 hours drinking time left.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
