Hi everyone! I am having surgery on Feb 23 and I have decided that only my parents and my husband will know. I had previously booked a trip to Florida with friends that is now 3 weeks post open. Is there any way I could get the earing changes by them? Any ideas on what I could blame a special diet on? I live my friend but she and her husband have never struggled with their weight and will just never understand! Any advice will be appreciated :)

I think it will depend on what post op eating pan your doctor has you on, and how well your recovery is going. I have learned that different doctors follow so may different plans. I am 2 weeks post op right now, and i am able to eat yogurt, cottage chees, applesauce and well cooked veggies. By 3 weeks, I will be adding eggs and Beans. However, there are other doctors that have you on 2 weeks of liquids after post op, so that can be tough.

Since I have so much variety right now, I find that the tougher part to explain when people don't know I had surgery, is that I can only fit about 2oz and then I am full. In my case, I have pretty much told everybody, but with the variety that I am able to eat right now, I could easily tell people that I am eating all veggies right now as some sort of cleanse, and just cutting out meat for a while.

I didn't tell anyone but my children and husband. I tell people I have issues with my hernia or esophagus if they make a comment about how or what I am eating.

It's worked for me for almost 5 years.

Good Luck

Thank-you. My husband really doesn't wanna go on the trip without me but if I'm on an all liquid diet still I'm not sure I can make enough excuses. FYI she is a nurse practitioner

Tell them you have bad heartburn or reflux or tell them you're just doing a special diet and don't want to mess it up

Omg I totally understand your feelings. I still to this day have told very few. I just tell people I have a sensitive stomach and if I am not careful I will throw up

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
