bekah7482 79 Posted January 31, 2017 Hello everyone, I don't have a surgery date yet but I am shooting for sometime in March. My best friend moved halfway across the country over a year ago. She is vacationing to her home town in Florida in June with her new baby and wants me to meet her there so I can visit her and meet the new baby. Is there any issue with traveling roughly 3 months out from surgery? I will be traveling alone and it's a 9hour flight. I know wounds would be healed but I have heard to fatigue, dizziness and low energy for a while after surgery and with travel being a stressor on the body, i want to make sure I will be ok by myself. FindingCarrie 244 Posted January 31, 2017 I will be traveling a month after surgery, and I think i will have no problem. It will depend on how your recovery goes, but I don't think you will have any problems. My doctor said 4 to 6 weeks after should be fine. bekah7482 79 Posted January 31, 2017 Perfect, thank you. I don't want to commit to visiting her and back out. Especially because I am not telling anyone about the surgery. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
FindingCarrie 244 Posted January 31, 2017 I wouldn't buy your tickets until you know how you are feeling afterwards, just in case. If you have a tough recovery, you may not want to go. However, if everything goes smoothly, you should have no problem at 3 months post op. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
travelergirl 142 Posted January 31, 2017 I talked to my surgeon about international travel and she was looking at 6 to 8 weeks as her recommendation. Buy a ticket on Southwest Airlines if you are concerned about potential cancellation. They don't charge a fee to cancel or change flights. The value of your ticket is good for a year from purchase. And they have a very friendly customers of size (COS) policy. When you arrive at gate before your flight ask for a second seat under the COS policy. They give you preboarding and a paper to put on the seat next to you that says seat is reserved. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
