Surgery Scheduled in one month. Does this mean I am approved?

Recommended Posts

So my surgery has been scheduled at a major Boston for Mar 3. I'm excited but wonder about insurance. They handle the insurance but I am not sure if has even been submitted yet. I have had all my visits with psyche, nutrition, etc. The only thing i have left is an endoscopy next week. If they already scheduled me am I to assume they do not think there will be an issue? I have a BMI of 40 and no sleep apnea or anything else. I just didn't realize I could be denied? I have two health insurance plans.

Sally, your close, but until the dr.s office tells you your approved or you get the approval notice in the mail, it is not confirmed. Try calling your insurance, they may tell you over the phone.

Good luck!

The EDG is typically the surgeon's requirement not insurance. Too many surgeons schedule you so that they know what their calendar looks like, they think nothing of canceling last minute. Pick up the phone right now and call your insurance company and ask if your paperwork was even submitted yet. You can't be sure until you receive something from your insurance company saying you've been approved.

You need to call your doctor or insurance to verify approval. Some doctors will schedule you prior to approval so they get you into the hospitals schedule. But this is not necessarily insurance approval. If you aren't approved they just cancel the surgical appointment.

My doctor scheduled after insurance was approved so this was never an issue. But I know people whose doctors did the scheduling first then went through the approval process.

Oftentimes a call directly to your insurer is the quickest way to get your current status.

Call ur insurance to make sure. 24 hrs b4 surgery mine was still not approved. I had a melt down when ins tried to give me run around and my surgery was possibly getting delayed, next avail date was 2 months out. In the end it all worked out but the stress was so unwelcome 24hrs b4 surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
