determined1LD 19 Posted January 30, 2017 Ok I'm about to get super personal and I need some advise. I was wondering if there's hope for me I was diagnosed with a eating disorder... Binge disorder. Look it up if your not familiar with it. I'm in treatment/counseling for it but I'm super nervous that once I get the surgery I might binge eat and then the surgery would have been for nothing. Any advice? Determined1LD
imgettinsleeved 21 Posted January 30, 2017 Your body isn't going to let you binge eat. Its going to be super painful if you eat more than your stomach can handle Sent from my LGUS991 using the BariatricPal App 1 Deactivatedfatgal reacted to this
MowryRocks 679 Posted January 30, 2017 I agree with the other comment. One bite too many is painful with the sleeve. I can only imagine it would be worse with RNY or DS. 2 Deactivatedfatgal and starfishwish reacted to this

DaleCruse 756 Posted January 31, 2017 Every one of us has to work on the root cause of our overeating. Surgery is a tool but not a fix. 1 Deactivatedfatgal reacted to this
lizard107 8 Posted January 31, 2017 Have you talked to your counselor about it? Also make sure you mention to your surgeon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Mrs.ChangingTX 51 Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) It appears that you have a diagnosis which could help your treatment and the possibility of long term success. Many of us are still working on understanding why we over eat. It is to your advantage to start counseling. You can start to understand your triggers, learn coping skills and create a support system. WLS could give you another tool as you move forward towards better health. Work with your healthcare team. I went to Charis in Indianapolis, if you google it you can kind of get an idea of the services they offer. I've been through a lot of therapy for my BED and I still struggle but I have more tools to deal with it now. I also had a year of pre-op appointments and am stable enough that they've approved my surgery. 2 determined1LD and Walter.Sobchak reacted to this
hmills653 365 Posted March 23, 2017 None of us got to this point from eating right. Try to find your triggers and ways to deal with them other than binging.
Lillith 5 Posted March 23, 2017 I would highly recommend counseling with someone who specializes in eating disorders. Also working with a Dietician (not a nutritionist) who specializes in eating disorders would be super helpful. I'm not diagnosed with an eating disorder, but I definitely have some disordered thinking towards food. I've been working with both for months prior to scheduling my surgery and I think it's something everyone considering surgery should do. *hugs* you can do this 1 determined1LD reacted to this
