Six days post-op and very sad, i have no idea why

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric bypass surgery last Monday, Jan. 23rd and i've been feeling so low and depressed recently. Is this normal? I'm also going stir-crazy in my house and am so bored of watching tv. I also have a giant cyst from the catheter in the downstairs region which is more painful than the actual surgery incisions-which i am getting taken care of tomorrow. So it's a mix of feeling sad, bored, a little hungry for anything other than Soup and Water, a little lonely and the pain from this damn cyst.

Help?

Hormones dump very quickly just after surgery, so I was told....

I personally was a perfect weepy and depressed soul at 1 week out. And then again around 6 weeks out. It passes. Put some music on, close your eyes and relax. I got tired of tv too!

I had mine on Thursday the 26th and just got home today. I felt very low a couple of times in the hospital, especially when I failed the liquids challenge and had to stay another night. But I'm home now and my spirits have picked up. I imagine it will be quite a ride, much like pregnancy was!

it is perfectly normal. your body is reacting to the trauma of surgery. in fact you will probably have several periods like that in the next few months but it will all work out and then the great times will come. just hang on.

As you lose weight, the chemicals and hormones that were stored in your fat cells are being released into your body. These will pass through your kidneys and are expelled in your urine. But they can generate a flush of hormones during the weight loss phase. They should simmer down once you transition into maintenance. It is important to meet your daily Fluid requirements, because it take fluids to flush these hormones from your system.

I had surgery on the 25th and am feeling exactly the same way (minus the cyst - ouch!!). It hits me randomly. I'll be fine and then weepy and sad all of the sudden. I try and just remind myself why I did this but it is really hard. Hang in there.

I think that it's all part of the process. I had a total melt down when i got home from hospital . I cried and felt so horrible . I started to second guess myself in regards to have my gastric bypass. Felt like that for a few days . It gets better as time passes.

2weekss post op here and I still cry at least every other day. It sucks but I knew to expect it. I'm just barely getting over the regretful part.

Cls...I had my surgery on the 24th and I had my day too where I also cried and once I started it was hard to stop. Reminded me of when I had my girls. I'm 41 and they are 11 and 6 now. Anyway, nice to have someone going through this and these stages together. I agree, feel very lonely at times. I'm a principal so I'm used to a very busy schedule w/ work and the girls playing sports. Now I'm home with so much to think about. I'm still having a lot of pain on my left side. I knew I'd have it, but wasn't expecting it to still be this bad. I'm very lucky as far as keeping things down and getting fluids in. I'm frustrated with not losing as much as I thought I would but I have to remember it hasn't been that long either. Are you finding yourself the same way? I'm looking forward to the next stage of food for some variety

I had my on the 25th of this month. You should take a look at some of the side effects of the pain medication they gave you. My doctor prescribed a nerve pain medicine that can cause you to temporarily feel depression and another one has the potential side effects of causing you to see things. ( Not saying that's the cause of you feeling down, but it may be a contributing factor.)

@@Jazzzyjay feel the same way! I think we had surgery the same day. 1-18? Right now I just snapped at my husband, then started crying! He looked at me like I had lost it. And I have to go back to work Monday. Lol. I know it will get better though.

1-17 was mine. The only part that feels "normal" about these roller coaster emotions is knowing I am not alone. Last night I spent my entire night crying until I fell asleep. When I woke up I cried for another couple hours. It really sucks. I wonder how long does this last?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
