Ok I was at the support group last night. Was anyone else there? Next time I need you to wear a flower or color so I know who anyone is. Oh well. I really liked the group, a lot of nice people.:)

Good morning to all of my fellow bandsters, I missed the last support group meeting this last Tues. (lack of car) but hopefully I will be able to make it next time.

To the two ladies here that have their dates coming up, how are you doing? I know that liquid diet isn't any fun, but in the long run very worth it. I was scared that he was going to open me up and see that my liver wasn't shrunk enough and not do the surgery.:cool2::thumbdown: So I was very careful about what I put in my mouth.

So far to date, I've lost about 31 lbs, I keep on being stuck on 294 for the last 3 days, I guess to time to do more exercising. I had my 2nd fill about 2 weeks ago and have 7 cc in me now, and I can feel it now. I'm learning to recognize when I'm full and to stop eating even though I still want to keep putting food in my mouth because it tastes soooo good.

Take care!;)

Hi Everyone. My surgery is Tuesday (October 7th) and I am so excited and nervous at the same time. All my questions have been answered. I just found out I am having my procedure at 9:00 AM instead of 1:30 PM which is what I was originally told. What a relief. Now I won't be "stewing" all day. :tt2: I hope to meet everyone else who is having surgery that day while we are strolling the halls at Silver Cross. I was at the Sept. 30 support group meeting and found it helpful. I appreciate all the support I have gotten from this site. I lost 9 lbs on the pre-op diet but am really struggling and hungry all the time. I am trying to be extra careful, but have cheated a few times this weekend with additional protien. I hope the hunger goes away after my surgery.

Hi giddyupgrandma! May you have an uncomplicated surgery and a quick recovery! Being excited and nervous at the same time is a good thing...you have a great doctor and everything will be fine......I'm not sure if you are one of the ladies I met at the support group meeting or not but I'm sure we will meet again. If you are the lady I was talking to we talked about my not being hungry after surgery. Got questions, reply to this message as I don't come on here often. Good luck Tuesday, I'll be thinking about you!

Carol---thanks for the encouragement. I'm sure we will meet next month at the support group. My name is Nancy (giddyupgrandma because I am a proud grandma who owns two beautiful horses). One of my goals is to be able to ride again after I lose weight.

Thanks CyndyG. I am 57 today. My surgery on Tuesday Oct.7th, went well, less than a half hour and I had a hernia repair (unexpected) too. I was up and walking a few hours later. Silver Cross was wonderful. Unfortunately, my heart did not take kindly to the stress of surgery and I have experienced multiple episodes of Atrial Fibrillation (I was diagnosed in Feb/07) since my surgery. The drugs I use to control the A-Fib do not seem to be working. A-Fib is not a life threatening heart arrythmia, just annoying. It leaves me tired and short of breath, so the 20 minute walk each day is a challenge. Some days I can only walk 10 minutes. Before surgery, I was up to a 45 minute walk. The good news is, I have not taken a diabetes drug since I got home from the hospital and my blood sugar is normal. I really can't eat anything but Atkins shakes for Protein. Yesterday, I tried a little scrambled egg with cheese and I ate most of it. Today I will try some tuna. I see my cardiologist on Monday, so hopefully, I will get some answers. I have to be honest, because you are facing surgery soon, I have felt like I might throw up since the surgery, but have not. I just hate that uncomfortable feeling. So my advice would be to ask for anti-nausia medication and a stool softener before you leave the hospital. If you would like to email me directly, my email is nanatcoldbank@aol.com. Good luck Cyndy!

My doc is Dr. Lahmann but I understand that both doctors are in the operating room for all surgeries. Wow...we get twice the expertize. I am doing well and hoping to find a walking buddy. We could meet at the mall and be mall walkers. Let me know if you and anyone you know of might be wanting to start a program of some kind. So far my exercise is strolling Walmart.< /p>

Hi, are any of you still here?

Would LOVE to hear about any get togethers or meetings at the support group. There is power in networking and numbers.

I just received a message from Hugs2you1971 (Michelle) and she would like to set up a support site and to moderate it. We LOVE Dr's Lahmann and Joyce and want to be not only a endorsing factor but a supportive group to each other.

With all of us being patients that have had or are having surgery under their advice and recommendations and follow-ups we can all be encouged and supported knowing we are all following what is mutually advised and recommend by these very caring and skilled men.

Ok, who is still here???

Cheryl

Hi,

I am still here and doing well. Still hoping to find as accountability partner to exercise with? Anyone? Yes, I love Dr. Lahmann. He and his beautiful wife are expecting baby # 4 sometime in September 09...

My company, Century 21 ProTeam, 1020 Essington Rd. in Joliet is doing a community service project on 10-24-09 between 11 and 2 pm. It is a pumpkin fest with lots of free stuff for the kids including a petting zoo and pony rides, hot dog lunch, games, face painting....all totally free. Our doctors are helping by sponsoring. Please bring your kids out for a really good time.

Yep, I am still here. Not posting as much now as I was in the beginning and I feel bad about that because everyone helped me so much. I am coming up on my one year anniversary (October 2nd, 2008) and am really struggling with these last 30 or so pounds. I have lost about 65 pounds to date, but have had no significant weight loss since my 6 month mark. I have had lots of fills and feel very restricted. I had been exercising regularly up until about a month ago when I began experiencing severe knee pain. I am in physical therapy for the next four weeks. Hopefully, after that, I will be able to exercise again. I am all for supporting each other as best as we can.

Hi Giddyup!

Sorry to hear about your knee. I have not been to the last couple of support meetings for various reasons. Miss seeing you! How are you doing with your horses?

My problem at this point is getting my Protein in. It is so easy to grab the wrong things to eat and you do need to sit down and take time for most Proteins. Bad habits are so easy to get into. Now that I am pretty healthy I can't let those bad habits get hold of me.

You were looking really good the last time I saw you. Slow weight loss at this point is not so bad. It may make it easier for your body elasticity to keep up with the loss. Hang in there! Just think how good you feel/look compared to a year ago.

Hello I'm Michelle and 10 days post op today. Dr Lahmann was my dr. He is so kind and gentle. Id love to start a support group for Dr Lahmann and Joyce patients. This site is great but each Dr has their own protocol and sometimes it's hard to know if you're doing what your own dr would want you to do.

If anyone is interested let me know I'll get it started.

Hugs,

Michelle

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
