and Im freaking out! On the verge of calling and cancelling( I wont do it but a part of me is shrieking right now) and the anxiety is making me sick.

I am looking forward to it but it's just right now I'm feeling so horribly anxious.Like, I'm almost 99% positive I'll be the unfortunate percentage that is opened and is found to be unfit for surgery.

sigh....

I am right there with you. My surgery is tomorrow too and I also feel anxious. I've managed to keep myself pretty busy doing things like pureeing chicken, making frozen Protein Shakes out of chicken Soup, and other preparations. Also, we are putting in my a wood stove. Activity keeps me from getting too anxious.

Call me crazy, but I've always enjoyed going in for surgeries, etc. I know....crazy. The nurses are alwasy astonished about my blood pressure being normal and I'm quite calm. I sure hope it stays this way when my time comes.

Ya'll will do well. Congratulations as well! Keep us posted. :)

I am right there with you! Tomorrow is the day for me. I keep thinking about the whole reason I am doing this, and it kinda keeps me from freaking out. And I am reading everyone's success stories. Good luck! My surgery is at 7:15 am.

@ze_vsg

Wow! There are a lot of us. I don't find myself worrying too much about learning I'm not fit for the surgery.

I do find myself thinking thoughts like, "Gee this could be my last day on earth and I'm doing laundry." I've just kept really busy doing exciting things for the last few weeks. I went to Washington on a bus with 100 other women, got a wood stove installed, and did a lot of post-op cooking. Today I made chicken Soup. Then I went to a movie made about an amazing friend of mine who passed away a year ago, and ran into a lot of people I haven't seen for awhile at the movie. This was much better than staying at home worrying. Yesterday I went out and purchased a load of wood so I could come home to a cozy fire after surgery.

I might feel like shit, but I'll have a fire to look forward to!

When I was young, there was a lot of anxiety-producing chaos in my life. I learned that if something huge is going to happen, it's going to happen, so I think I developed a strategy of doing lots of stuff to keep my spirits up regardless of what might be coming. I had a mom with mental illness who was in and out of the hospital without warning, and we never knew exactly where or with what relative we might end up living.

My surgeon has a great track record with fewer than average complications. He's been doing this for years and nobody has died on him yet. I figure I might as well get the most I possibly can out of today, prepare my house for convalescence, and hope for a speedy recovery without too much gas.

sleeping it off also sounds like a sound strategy. I guess I'll see you all on the other side. Let me know how it goes for you.

Good luck to all of you! I was TOTALLY FREAKED the night before and was not convinced I was going to go through with it...its totally normal. In retrospect that was easy compared to 2 weeks out and CRAVING food....

One day at a time..oh..and just so you know...I had NO pain, I was groggy..but surgery itself was nothing compared to what I thought. Everyone is different of course, but just so you know, it might be way easier than you think. :)

I got sleeved on Tuesday and am recovering fairly well just have soreness and am cautiously moving slow. I had some puréed potato Soup and cream of wheat today. Just a couple tablespoons but it went down well. No issues. I've not needed much pain medicine either. I feel so blessed - this was my first surgery ever!

congratulations on your successful surgery! A heads up though...my nurse told me no to Cream of Wheat and suggested I stick with high Protein low carb preparations which made me sad because I love cream of wheat when I'm sick.

How did your surgery go. I was feeling like changing my mind and was about to say something as I was being wheeled out, but then the next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room and asking why things kept exploding. I was hearing bombs. but it turned out I was near the door and it was the sound of the door closing I was hearing. Surgery went well.

Update: Surgery itself went well. No "her liver is too big so no surgery' announcements were made with me on the operating table, lol..Had the usual gas pains the first few days. Currently at a 8 lb loss post surgery and on full liquid diet.Walking upto 30 mins a day but on regular speed. The usual no poop thing happening but have medicatioan for that, so no worries..

I hope you all had great surgeries and smooth recoveries....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
