Extreme Gas/Abdominal Pain

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on December 22, 2016 so I am a little over one month post-op. I ended up back in the hospital for severe dehydration and nausea and they released me with no new medications. I have been having horrible gas pains since the day of surgery and even with Gas-X and Pepcid being taken regularly, it hasn't subsided. I have met with 2 surgeons and a dietician and they're all telling me that I kind of have to just deal with it for now. I get nauseous every time I eat, then I continue burping until I feel like I have to vomit and end up dry heaving. The problem is that I'm so miserable. I had to withdraw from all of my classes for the semester and I've taken weeks upon weeks off of work. I don't know what to do anymore. It seems like nothing is helping. Any suggestions?

What are you eating? Have you cut out dairy?

Just had my surgery Feb. 2 now the pain I'm feeling is from JP drain starts in front where incisions are and travels to right side towards my back. Is this normal or should I be worried?

I am having a similar reaction. Gas-X and Alka-Seltzer don't touch it. I'm not vomiting but get nauseas. I was sent home with nausea meds to be mixed in with apple sauce. Unfortunately, I am having a bad reaction to anything with fruit and any dairy. My food intake is 1/2 cup of something at lunch and the same with dinner, with only a cup of tea for Breakfast. I am miserable.

Are you walking? That really helps alleviate gas post-surgery. As well, make sure you're drinking at least 64 oz of water/fluids a day.

Helena I also was hospitalized for severe dehydration and spent almost a month there with part of it in intensive care. I couldn't eat or drink which of course caused the p obelisk. My doctors prescribed Protonix and Sucralfate for the acid and stomach. They are a Godsend! Regular acid blockers didn't work for me and believe me I tried them all. I am able to eat anything except milk and sugar products as they make me nauseous. Now I don't regret having the sleeve!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
