Anyone else doing a 5 wk liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Mines is a month and I'm on day 4. I would say have a variety. If your nutritionist and surgeon allow frozen berries as a part of it, then Protein smoothies with different flavors of Protein. I purchased a sample pack of the nectar protein in a variety of flavors and I have had fun trying the different ones in smoothies. Also if u can do smoothies, I read somewhere that the action of chewing helps with the full sensation. It's hard, I'm not gonna lie. But the outcome is to make sure you have as smooth of a surgery as possible. Try to find different recipes to make it fun and tasty. I'm feeling okay with it now being that today is technically the 5th day. And having support helps. Surround yourself with people who are going to help you through these 5 weeks.

Some people get a longer presurgery diet. Depends on BMI, preexisting conditions, etc.

Seems a hell of a long time to just be on liquids although I know all surgeons do things different. I just wanted to know if was just liquids, as some add a main meal of Protein and veg. I did 18 days and that was so difficult at times. I can't imagine 5 weeks!

Best of luck to you both :D

Our programme (NHS Glasgow) is minimum 3 week pre surgical diet liquids only I believe, think I'm doing a 6 week one for best results. We don't have access to nectar or Chrystal lite tho here so Slim Fast or semi skimmed milk is it.

Dang, that seems super long! We have a 6 month diet to follow and only 1 day of liquids to not complicate the anesthesia process. I'm going through UCLA's COMET program and it's been amazing!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
