Kinda... If that was the case, then we all could have lost weight just by going on a diet. A positive outlook in life is a good thing as is wanting to change but I couldn't wish away my fat no matter how great my desire was.

I do believe that this journey is anchored with a burning desire to change, but, more importantly, it is fueled by a reasonable and effective plan of action, supportive tools, grit, perseverance, and a consistent dedication to making good decisions!

I feel like taking the step and getting the surgery is our desire to change..no true change comes without wanting it but also the backbone of change is the hard work. Just my 2 cents.

My husband and I are both morbidly obese. I want to change, he doesn't. I will be getting the surgery and dropping pounds, and he'll stay the same. Maybe one day, with my positive example, he'll come around.

As I said in one of my post, " I don't want any naysayers in my posse". Another piece of the positive energy puzzle is to believe. You have to believe you can do it. Really believe. See yourself succeeding. About 5 months, ago before I made this my decision, I woke from a dream where I saw myself standing in the doorway of my garage to patio entrance. I saw myself hosting a family party. It,was like I was watching myself. I was wearing a pair of yellow Capris with a yellow and white tank top and gold sandals. I was so thin!! I don't even own anything yellow!! Lol. But I look at her (me) now all the time in my mind. Visualize what you wish to become. Believe that you will achieve your goal. And most importantly...pray...ask God to guide and bless you in your journey and then reach for the brass ring. Hold on tight and don't let go. Anything is possible....Believe.!!!!

@@K_aane,

I totally agree. Visualizing is so important. I needed this thread to remind myself that I need to keep visualizing and taking it a day at a time and follow my plan and the weight will come off.

My husband and we're both morbidly obese too. Your situation mirrors mine. I had the surgery and 4 months later I'm down 75 lbs and he has refused to make a single change. Sometimes he gets up some motivation to try for a few days but ultimately reverts right back.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
