I'm wondering if it's hard to drink right after surgery, how do you get your Vitamins and medicines in, especially if you take pills?

I didn't have any trouble drinking, but I know that others have.

You just need to take tiny sips and sip slowly.

For Vitamins, mine were chewable, so I could start taking them right away. I have quite a few meds that I take. I checked with my doctor and nutritionist before my surgery and they said that any pill that was too big to fit through a hole punch would need to be broken in half or into smaller pieces. All of my pills were too big to swallow whole, so I broke a couple in half and broke the really large ones into 3 or 4 pieces. Then I just took a really small sip of Water to get each piece down. It was kind of a pain, but it worked out fine. I did this for about a month, because if I tried any pill that was too large before then, it would kind of get stuck in my throat while I was trying to get it down. After about a month I could swallow most of my pills whole.

I'm only 2 weeks post-op but liquids are fine now. Initially, I could only take small sips, but I did that all day. Always had a cup in my hand. It can be hard, but practice makes perfect. After a week or so, I was able to take more than 1 sip at a time. Now I can sip a nice amount 2 or 3 times in a row. I think you just need to start slow and continue working up until you have the ability to drink normally. I'm not there yet, but it is getting easier.

I have a chewable multi-Vitamin, liquid B-12, the rest are Gummy chewables. I'm thinking about using the Vitamin Patches soon too. At first the Vitamins made me feel full, but now I've learned to space things out to get it all in.

I started retaking regular Vitamins one week after surgery. My doctor was OK with taking regular pills as long as I could swallow them. At two weeks out I added Calcium pills too. I didn't have any issues.

I had chewable Vitamins for the first few months. I tried regular ones at 3 months but was sick after taking them and it put me off. Since 9 months I have been taking regular tablets and Im fine with it.

Thyroxine, I took sublingualy, which I already did pre-op. My BP tablets and Prozac - I didn't take for the first week. After that I used to break the capsule and add them to soup/food when I was cleared to have them.

Do you find your bloodwork to be just fine with the patches? I've been looking in to these....

I'd think the chewables would make you full, did they? Or even the pills, for that matter. I'm almost weary of taking pills knowing that I have to sip, especially in the beginning.

Nope, they didn't fill me and I loved the mouth zing they gave me. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
