Full liquids starts today!

I was cleared for full liquids after leaving the hospital, my surgeon allows cream Soups strained of all lumps and bumps, cream cereals such as malt-o-meal, and cream of wheat, sf pudding, thick Protein shakes (like premier) and that's about it. I did try to drink premier 1 day post op and it didn't taste the same I hated it, and was extremely too thick to get down. Haven't tried again, let me know how it goes for you! How are you feeling in terms of pain and all that?

I still have the pain in my chest when I drink. My stomach (incision area) only hurts when I go from sitting to standing and standing to sitting. Also when I'm trying to move in bed. How about you?

I'm doing pretty good, I also have a little pain when moving around in bed, coughing, and especially sneezing, but I try to apply pressure while doing these things and it makes it a little better. I don't get pain from drinking just what feels like gas in my chest if I drink too much or too fast, I don't really have much restriction as some I've seen here with getting my liquids. I'm able to finish 20 oz of Water in a little over an hour which I think is odd.

Yay! My mood and energy really improved when I graduated from clear to full liquids. I suggest you find an unflavored Protein Powder to add it to strained Soups. Mix a scoopful of powder with just enough Water to make it smooth, then add it to hot liquids (that way it won't get those awful clumps).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
