It's better to abstain. WLS patients are at a higher risk for alcoholism, beer has a lot of empty calories, and it's carbonated to boot.

That having been said, I've had a couple ounces here and there and it hasn't affected me. I'm very, very careful about it though.

Thanks for the response. Not drinking beer socially will be hard for me. It's worth it I know but still hard.

You can but honestly beer is the last thing I would choose early on. The carbonation is a killer with such a small stomach. I mean, serious discomfort

and bloating. For me, wine was a better choice but know that I didn't have any alcohol until I was 9 months out and had lost a majority of my excess weight.
