jswerczek 4 Posted January 28, 2017 Can you drink beer after WLS? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Vinasu 621 Posted January 28, 2017 It's better to abstain. WLS patients are at a higher risk for alcoholism, beer has a lot of empty calories, and it's carbonated to boot. That having been said, I've had a couple ounces here and there and it hasn't affected me. I'm very, very careful about it though. jswerczek 4 Posted January 28, 2017 Thanks for the response. Not drinking beer socially will be hard for me. It's worth it I know but still hard. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
erp 2,016 Posted January 28, 2017 Can you drink beer after WLS? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App You can but honestly beer is the last thing I would choose early on. The carbonation is a killer with such a small stomach. I mean, serious discomfort and bloating. For me, wine was a better choice but know that I didn't have any alcohol until I was 9 months out and had lost a majority of my excess weight.
