First appt. Cancelled.

Recommended Posts

My first appt with a bariatric surgeon was cancelled because they no longer take my insurance, I was devastated!. After spending 2 hours on the computer I found a place in Chicago that takes my insurance, and I made sure they did!!! My first appt. Is Feb. 8 th. I am 50 years old, 5'10 and weigh 252.8, my BMI is 37.8. I have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and joint pain. I am afraid of being told no. Don't know why I am feeling this way, but I do. It's something that I've wanted for the past couple years. I've done Jenny Craig, WW, and just personal dieting, losing maybe 20 pounds, but always getting frustrated and gaining is all back, then I just stop. My neice was sleeve last July and has lost 103 pounds and looks and feels fantastic. She keeps telling me to try to gain a few more pounds in this coming week to make my BMI higher. I don't know about that. Has anyone had borderline BMI had trouble getting sleeved? Or any surgery for that fact. I just don't want to be told no, I'll jump through hoops to get it done.

What does your insurance say is their criteria? Usually you can find it online in the fine print of your insurance documents. It isn't the surgeon's criteria. Mine was a BMI of 40 or 35 to 39.9 with one co-morbidity. Some require 2 co-morbidities. Given your co-morbidities, you would qualify with my insurance. Don't gain more weight. That's counterproductive!

It's not just the insurance company, even plans with the same insurance company can have different requirements. Mine is a Blue Shield of CA PPO. It's best to call your insurance company and ask what their requirements are. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
