My experience with Oasis Hospital and Dr. Illian .. (great!)

Recommended Posts

I recently had a revision of a VS to mini gastric bypass surgery in Jan (three weeks ago). I live in Los Angeles so I drove in and stayed the night before at the hotel they use. The surgery was very easy. For me going under is not a scary prospect as I’ve been around this rodeo before (this would be my 11 time going under). And it was very easy. I felt NO PAIN at all. I can’t say that will happen to everyone but I happen to be blessed with a high tolerance of pain. Even the gas they put in your stomach for the surgery seem minimal to me. I was walking all over the places chatting with the sweet receptionist up at the front of the hospital. So I was supposed to stay 3 days in hospital and two in the hotel but I only stayed in the hotel that one day and was bored to death. I wanted to drive home so I left one day early. Dr. Flores said I was good to go.

I was treated very well and having so many doctors to check on my condition every day besides the nurses. Honestly, I got more care then in a regular US hospital. The bariatric pal staff was amazing. I think the only shortcoming I see, which is minor, is to give add a page in the nice patient book they give us on what kind of Vitamins supplements we need to take after the surgery and how often and what type of blood tests we should take when we see our own physicians. The only other issues I had (again it’s minor) was there should have been a cleaning crew to pick up the dirty towels and empty the trash. I had to request them to do this. I talked to Enrique about my concerns and he told me he had a meeting with the staff and hospital discussing this and other issues. Again minor issues. The hospital was as good as any in US and the staff were very professional and treated me well. Also, the hotel has a casino in it and it is pretty noisy so bring some ear plugs. The rooms are very nice otherwise and the staff at the hotel was great. I had no issues with eating and on my third week and eating regular food albeit very little of it and I chew well. No dumping yet. I am being good for my diet. I am a gourmet cook so I am making a lot of the low carb recipes.< /p>

To me the surgery was easy-peasy. I should have done this a long time ago. The price is the best for TJ bariatric surgeries and the hospital was great! I was watching a lot of Netflix shows there too.

I would do this all again in a heartbeat. My only regret is I should have done this a year ago!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
