Welcome!

Call your insurance company now and see if you have WLS benefits, and if you do ask what are their requirements.

I know that with some of the weight loss programs I have done such as phen-phen,phenteramine and more aren't covered.

The secret phrase is "Medically necessary".

If you are covered for medically necessary weight loss surgery, you will be covered for the band, provided all other criteria are met. Ask your insurance company to be sure, or use their online coverage section, or talk to your insurance or H.R. representative.

really are you in liberty or close by? How cool is that to be practically in your back yard. eyebrows.gif
Well, technically we're in Kansas City, but we're like a mile from the Liberty city limits, off of 291. We have KC address, Liberty phone number... we're on that weird divide. :peep:

oh your on the other side of the highway where all the new construction is? Maybe we could be our support. I spoke to a lady at work who is also considering this to. I had no idea with her either.

Yep, that's exactly where we're at. Where the farms used to be. *sigh* I miss seeing the cows on my drive home.

There are several bandsters within 40 minutes or so. Check in on the MO or KS threads (I frequent KS more because that's where I had my surgery done). And feel free to ask any questions you have - same for your co-worker. I end up giving little mini seminars at work because so many people "come out of the closet" with interest in the band as soon as they find out that's how I've lost the weight. :rose:

I did check with my insurance co. They don't cover the surgery. however I can enroll for the insurance through my work if they do my surgery would be scheduled for sometime in Jan. 2008. I'm nervous but yet very excited. I will check out mo and kansas threads.

I've been kind of out of the loop getting ready for halloween and tours.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A. Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
