Can't stand water!

Recommended Posts

I was the same, but I figured there's no way around it - Water is essential and I'm not going to work around it. So I set a timer on my phone and forced myself to take a sip every three minutes. My sips got bigger and now I can pretty much gulp. I get 64oz on the dot because it's still hard. However, I had a really hard workout this morning and 20oz. went down very well. Oh and here's a tip: Take a few gasX strips, wait a few minutes and try drinking. It's goes down much more smoothly.

I force myself to drink Water as much as I can but unfortunately I probably get only 30oz a day since I can't drink during or right after I eat I wait 30 minutes then by the time I do drink it feels and tastes awful. But I can drink juice, tea, or even coffee easily.

Plain Water actively hurts my stomach. I know it sounds weird but my surgeon said it's not uncommon side effect. I use a lot of mios and Crystal Light. I drink a lot iced tea. I also like the 5 calorie diet cranberry juice cocktails.

I also like to add ice to my Protein drinks and put it in the Ninja blender. It up my liquid and give a better texture to the drinks. Makes it feel more like a frappuccino then a Protein Drink. This works really well with my Fairlife chocolate Milk genpro shakes. Turns 12 ounces into 20 without much loss of taste

Just be aware that Powerade and those sports drinks are filled with electrolytes (sodium). So if you're BP has been low or dizzy spells coming that weren't before surgery, they will help with those effects.

However if you are fighting high BP, they are a bad idea. Also, by design they make your body hold on to Water.

Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately I'm on the up and down of b/p usually it's too low...I do get dizzy spells once in a while

I pay close attention to my body, if I feel my heart racing I definitely won't drink it.

Also, don't freak out if you gain a pound or two. It's just your body retaining Water from the increased sodium.

Yeah I don't get too upset over a pound but when I see anything over three pounds I get annoyed lol ...I know I shouldn't but after the "chop" I wasn't expecting that to be a possibility so soon

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
