Praying for a speedy recovery. I am scheduled for my surgery on the 13th and am scared as I have a history of a blood clot in arm in August. Hope all goes well for you

Did you let your surgeon know? I have a family history of blood clots (maternal grandma had 2 pulmonary embolisms and my dad had a DVT) and my surgeon plans to have me on blood thinners for longer after surgery to prevent one.

Just wondering... in the day or two before the pain started, did you fly anywhere? Go on a long car trip? Anything unusual?

It would be nice to know if this is only a complication from the surgery, or a combination of factors.

How long do you stay in the hospital?

No I did not fly anywhere or no long car trips. I was in hospital for 5 days. Some Dr' s in the hospital said it is connected to the surgery. I am not sure I will ever find out. It been a tough time! Looking forward to better days ahead.

I'm so happy you are back home, safe and sound! I've been thinking of you! (I didn't want to say anything, but I lost my brother 34yo, and mother, 49yo to pulmonary embolism... my brother flew alot, and my Mom had some long car rides... neither had a diagnosis, so didn't get appropriate treatment).

If they want you to take a blood thinner for the next 6 months or year, it's a good idea. Coumadin takes more upkeep but it is easily reversed in case of excessive bleeding.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
