Help please with constant sickness and diarrhoea

Help please

My band to bypass was at the end of Nov and I've had constant sickness and diarrhoea since. I'm stuck in bed unable to walk due to exhaustion and feeling completely lost? I feel like I am simply slowly starving. Drs have done tests but the best they could say was I had a bad case of a gastrointestinal infection?? No antibiotics. I'm also unable to take my regular medications.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What can I do to help myself?

Thank you x

I am so sorry to hear about your health issues. I think that the best thing that you can do is pray, ask for Phenagren or Zofran and take it around the clock until you are stronger and follow your post op diet exactly. The one thing that I noticed was the more that I didn't eat, the more that the thought of food made me sick, so try to find something that tastes good to you and hopefully you will be able to hold it down soon.

I would also recommend that you take your Vitamins at bedtime right before bed, sometimes that can make you feel less nauseous.

I will be praying for your health and recovery. Good luck!!!

Are you continuing to be seen by doctors? They need to keep looking at you.

I assume they think it is a viral infection, since no antibiotics. 2 months is too long for a virus.

Can you take Probiotics? You might try loading up on them while waiting to see the doc.

Rachel, this is NOT normal, you are probably dehydrated and this is dangerous. Have you had blood work done?

Besides staying on top of the doctors, I would begin taking something over the counter to stop the diarrhea, first and foremost.

You also need Protein so keep up with your high Protein shake, even if you have to sip sip sip. Same with the Water.

but if you can't get out of bed, your body needs Water desperately. Good luck.

After my RNY gastric bypass surgery I became lactose intolerant. Anytime I drank milk or anything that contains lactose, I had an upset stomach and an immediate trip to the bathroom with diarrhea. So I complete cut out anything that contained lactose. After about 2 months this condition magically went away and I was back to normal. Be forewarned some Protein shakes contain lactose.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.

Thank you. The dr called to say they were a test short and yes I have c diff picked up 2 months ago in the hospital where I had my surgery. I'm so angry right now that I picked up an antibiotic resistant superbug and they left me suffering for 2 months. I've got meds to take now but can't keep them down, or the anti sickness meds they gave me to help with the sickness!!

Thank you everyone for your kind words and advice. I'm writing this from hospital. My bypass where the pouch joins the intestines was compromised. It was less than 3mm. They stretched the joint with a balloon down my throat to 6mm but it didn't work, or went back, I can now keep fluids down but nothing else, Including vital medications, I've been told I'll need between 3 and 4 more stretches. I'm so angry they left me like this for over 2 months and now it's going to take several more to fix......

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
