People that workout....

Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks postop and I have a general feeling of fatigue and I get winded really easily. I live in New York City so I'm often running up and down flights of stairs for my commute. When I get to the top of the stairs I have to stop because I'm so week. I want to start exercising but I'm so exhausted by the time that I get home from work I can't even think about exercising. Will this start to get better? Will I have more energy soon? Or do you think I should start exercising now even though I'm exhausted and build up my stamina and endurance? I've just Never felt this way before. I've felt lazy and full from food but I didn't feel weak. I am dropping weight fairly quickly.

I had my sleeve on 12/13/16, and just this week I started to feel like my old self. I too was winded and fatigued. My best friend reminded me that I had major surgery and it takes time to heal. Last week I was blah ( technical term ) lol. This week I'm a ball of energy! It gets better just hang in there.

It does get better. I started working out at 6 weeks, but for the first month, I felt light headed every time I did cardio. I nearly passed out several times.

Gradually, though, the weakness went away.

I'm 8 weeks post op and have been working out for 3 weeks now. I started with aqua aerobics and took it very slow and easy the first week. Just two days that week of that. Then at the beginning of the second week I went to the gym and tried the resistance machines, all at level 1 to get a feel for what I could do. That week I did the two aqua classes and added one day of resistance machines to the mix. At the beginning of this week, I tried the treadmill. I bought a stomach belt because it still hurts a bit when my stomach bounces. The belt works great and makes me sweat more in that area so double good news. I did intervals of walk/jog for a total of 25 min that day and that was it. That was Sunday of this week. I did aqua aerobics on Tuesday, resistance machines and treadmill (15 min) on Wednesday, and aqua again on Thursday. I'm going to rest now until Sunday. I've felt a dramatic increase in my energy since I started working out and am still dropping weight steadily. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
