I've never been one for meds, and this surgery has officially doubled the number of prescriptions I've had in my life. Has anyone else had adverse side effects? I've been drowsy and lethargic AH.

I'be been chalking this up to the meds more so than the surgery, because by the evening I start to pep up a bit since I moved my evening round of bills to just before bedtime.

Here's my list-

liquid Fiber (been avoiding this lately because this stuff is some weapons grade laxative and it did its job)

Miralax

Tylenol (over the counter; only as needed)

Oxycodone (I haven't been taking these- too scared of getting addicted and the pain has been very manageable or non-existent)

Phenegran (anti-nausea)

Actigall (prevents gallstones)

Omeprazole (reduces stomach acid)

Cultural (over the counter)

Plus the chewable Vitamins and Calcium. It's enough volume to be a meal in and of itself.

Anyone else running having serious lethargy post-Op?

the lethargy is normal after surgery. I see that your surgery was in jan so you are very new to this. the pain meds should be taken only when you need as well as the Fiber and lax. I have been taking omeprazole for 13 years and it prevents acid reflux and the ulcers that can come from this. also the gall bladder meds are very important. I had my gallbladder taken out 2 years ago and the surgeon said that there was a high percentage of bariatric patients who have to have the gall bladder removed after a few years. did not understand the correlation but he explained it in detail. as far as the meds it is something you will have to become use to. we all have to take lots of vit. and supplements because the surgery leaves our digestive systems where they do not absorb the things we need from foods. I sure wish you luck. you may want to have a discussion with your nurse or nutritionist at your follow up appts.

I had a lap band done 23rd jan, my surgeon sent me home with panadole only. Be it right or wrong. I guess every surgeon is different. If youre unsure about taking all the meds may be you should ask your surgeon if they are all neccessary and if so why

I'm sticking with the Phenegran, Actigall, Omeprazole, and Cultural, but I stopped the laxitive after it... did its duty. Too well. I actually just took some immodium to throttle things back a bit.
In fact, this tapped out feeling seems almost like food poisoning. Hopefully that's just a coincidence and no some kind of cruel irony. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
