almost40ish 58 Posted January 26, 2017 Hello all! Yes, I know a passport is required. Mine expired. I've made an appt with the passport agency. They require proof of international travel for the process to be expedited. However I will be flying to San Diego & transported by van to Tijuana (very common for safety for these procedures). Has anyone else been in this position? Do you know if the passport agency will provide a passport quickly if a Medical letter is provided? JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 26, 2017 I would assume a letter from your surgeon or surgeon's office would suffice as proof of international travel.

Thanks for responding! I read elsewhere someone got back in the US with state ID and a birth certificate, but it delayed the whole group by at least 1/2 hour at the boarder, and people got frustrated. bissara 18 Posted January 27, 2017 I'm a Greencard holder and they only wanted to see the Greencard not the passport,my husband American just had to show his drivers license but I guess it's everytime different. There is also a border card available Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 27, 2017 US law requires a passport, passport card, enhanced license, or nexus card. Whether or not they ENFORCE that is up to the individual border agent. So it is risky to rely on a normal license or birth certificate. Mexican law requires a passport or passport card. They will not accept an enhanced license or nexus card. But they do seem to be MUCH more lax about enforcement than US agents, so that is less likely to be an issue.
Gcarter 50 Posted January 27, 2017 I'm not sure about but I just got back from Tijuana and someone else in the car didn't have a passport. All she needed was license, birth certificate (certified) and she also took her social security card and had no problem at all.
