I know exactly what you mean!! I think that may be part of why I allowed myself to gain so much weight to begin with. Regardless of how much weight I gained, I always saw the same person in the mirror. But when I would see a picture of myself, my mouth would just drop because I couldn't believe how big I was and how disgusting I looked. Its pretty much the same thing now. I don't see all that much of a difference when I look in the mirror, but when I look at a current picture of myself, I think, wow, that cannot be the same person! Keep up the great work!

I'm now down about a hundred and fourteen pounds and I still don't see it for some reason. Other people do and I did see a picture that does show a big difference, but my brain still needs to get it!

I used to say, when I was at my heaviest, that I finally look how I felt all my life. Even when I was in the Army running 5 miles a day and in top condition at 120lbs I still felt like I looked like I was 309 lbs. The mirror shows you what you feel in your heart until you are ready to change you from the inside out. I had to change how I felt about me and not take peoples comments or ridicule as my own. I know I am 70 more lbs to my goal of 140 but I feel fantastic and sexier than when I was 120 lbs! Self esteem, fresh food and exercise work wonders! This site has such great support too! More power to you for taking the step to get YOU and YOUR life back!

Here's the thing, though... Our brain is trained to see us a particular way in the mirror, TRAINED. So it takes a bit of deprogramming as we lose weight for our brain to adjust. Instead of solely relying on the mirror use pictures. This is a great way to not only document your journey (trust me, a couple years down the road you'll wish you had) but it is an excellent tool to retrain your brain :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
