A couple questions (weight stall and dry mouth!)

Recommended Posts

So as of today I am 20 days post op, and overall things have been going well! I'm 30 lbs down, and so happy about that! However, the past 4 days I've been at a complete and total stand still with weight loss. I'm trying to increase my Protein and my exercise routine, but it doesn't seem to be making a difference. I know a lot of people said that a stall is normal at about 3 weeks and to just wait for it to pass and not lose motivation, but I was wondering if there are any tips as to try and speed it up a little or if there is REALLY nothing to do but to wait.

Also, I've been having a fairly difficult time with my mouth always being dry lately. I've been drinking tons of Water between eating (literally have already drank about 40oz just today) and was wondering if anyone has tips or has experienced this. I'm not diabetic, so I know that's not the cause, I'm just not sure what is.

Thanks you guys!!

The Dreaded Week 3 Stall is a real and there is nothing you can/should do about it. As long as you get your Protein, Water, and Vitamins in and are up and walking several times a day, you are doing everything right. You just have to be patient. Put away the scale if it is making you crazy. You should be focusing on healing and following your plan right now. The rate of weight loss should be the least of your worries.

Oh, as for the dry mouth, check out your tongue/throat in a mirror with a flash light. If it has a white coating on it, you might have oral thrush. That can be pretty common if you were given liquid antibiotics post-op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
