Ladies this is a little tmi but is it normal to get a period 3 days after surgery? I haven't gotten a heavy period in about 2 months now.

It started Monday just spotting but yesterday and today it's super heavy. Help!?

I read a lot of things pre-op that indicated that it is very probable to have a period immediately after the surgery.

I had one about 2 weeks post-op - I guess it's our hormones being thrown for a loop!

I had a super wicked period during and after surgery for about 10 days. I think it was all the IV fluids because I was a waterfall (TMI). It was super hard because in recovery I had to change pads constantly, then after I left the hospital I recovered on my couch, I had to put a towel down to make sure I didn't stain it! I've never been able to keep up with my Water intake, so I think with all the influx of iv fluids my body just went to town and did a uterine self clean lol.

Period is your uterus's way of saying " we are not getting pregnant this month". When your body goes through the trauma of surgery, regardless of which phase it's on, it shakes its head and says "na, it's not happening".

I also started my period 3 days in and I wasn't supposed to start for another two weeks. Keep taking Gas-x and sipping on Water as much as you can. There's so much going on around my tummy so I haven't felt any cramps yet! Or I am but the gas pain is more intense.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
