I was sleeved 8 days ago. I'm trying to figure out if what I'm feeling is normal post surgery or I need to see the doc.

I have been feeling really lousy. I have headaches of course stomach aches and I am very lethargic and sleepy. I'm supposed to be on full liquids but I'm struggling to get things down. I'm getting severe chest pains when I swallow anything. I think I may be swallowing too big/fast. I'm forcing myself to drink even though it hurts. I'm also forcing myself to walk 15 mins a day.

I'm not losing a lot of weight. I think my body is on starvation mode. Can anyone help?

It sounds to me like you are dehydrated, are you getting enough liquids in? Take tiny sips all day long. I would call your surgeon and let him/her know of your symptoms just to be on the safe side and for your piece of mind. Dehydration causes lethargy, headaches, nausea and even chest pains. Like you mentioned, big swallows will do it too this early out. Take care and give your surgeons office a call.

The pain in your chest is likely a spasm or contraction of your esophagus. I had those for about two weeks post-op any time I took even the teeniest tiniest sip of Water. Marching in place as I was sipping helped a little.

As for feeling fatigued and run down, that is VERY normal. I probably napped more than I was awake in the early days post-op. Even once I was back to work at 15 days post-op, I had to go to bed as soon as I got home because I was so exhausted from just working my desk job. The fatigue improves once you are healed up and able to get in more calories.

Thank you. I think you're both right. I do think I'm dehydrated. I'm trying to get fluids in. Thanks for the news about the spasms. That's what it feels like.

I'm also feeling pressure from my family to be up and "normal" again. It's messing with my head.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
