Potato chip craving? Substitutes?

Recommended Posts

I'm 12 weeks in and really am just now starting to get "cravings". Anyone one have a suggestion on a potato chip/salty substitute?

Do you have an air fryer where you can fry veggies? I think this would help. Some programs allow light popcorn. Mine doesn't but I can see where this would be helpful. Good Luck, cravings SUCK!!!

ParmCrisps (very small baked parmesan cheese rounds) are nice for a little crunch. They have virtually no carbs and 15 of them have 9 grams of Protein and 100 calories.

I have 5 of them once a day with some string cheese (33 calories, 0 carbs, 3 grams of protein). I could see how they could be sliders for some people, and they don't give you the most "bang for your buck" protein-wise, but they do provide some crunch and variety. That's why I just do 5 per day.

I bought mine at Sam's Club, but I'm sure you can find them in other outlets.

Good luck!

I agree with @@blizair09, ParmCrisps are really good, you can also make them yourself. I like Moon cheese in the pepperjack flavor. I found them at my local grocery store, they are also available on Amazon.

cheese cheese and more cheese! purely because of the Protein. I know this is going to sound horrible and I don't necessarily condone this but i LOVE salt & pepper Pork rinds. 80 calories for 1/2 oz and thats a great amount (about a snack bag full) and it has 8 grams of Protein. I don't do it often but they are delicious, the cut the craving and I justify it because it has more protein and less calories than chips. I love beef Jerky too but it doesn't give you the crunch satisfaction.

Good luck!!

Cheese... that is the best bet. Quest also makes small packs of Protein chips, but they are pricey and I didn't really find them to be all that great.

In what department do you buy the Parm Crisps? Dairy, frozen, ????

At Sam's, they were in a display out in the main aisle outside of one of the food aisles (one of the non-perishable food aisles).

Someone asked this same question on a Facebook group I'm in. I think someone said check next to the salad toppings in Walmart. Not sure though

I like Pork rinds. They surprised me as to how much Protein they have and no carbs or sugar. Just be careful because they can become a slider food...only have a few to satisfy the crunch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
