Sheran4eva 18 Posted January 25, 2017 Hello all! I had a band to sleeve revision on 12/20. I'm advanced to soft foods. I am currently down 34 pounds. My concern is that I can't have more than a few small bites of food. The nutritionist says I should have 2-3 oz of Protein in each meal and 2 oz of vegetables. Yeah right! I can maybe have about an oz. of Protein and I'm done. I can eat things like Greek yogurt and pudding with no problem. I remember my surgeon telling me on more than one occasion that he gave me a very small conservative sleeve. He said I should be get a lot of restriction. no kidding! Has any one had a similar experience? Does it get better? As of now, I truly not getting enough calories or protein. Thanks. JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 25, 2017 Um, at a month out your nutritionist already wants you at 4-5 ounces of food at one meal!??! That's nuts! I was at 2 oz. a meal for ages. I am well over 2 years post-op now and I would say 5-6 ounces is my absolute max, depending on the density of what I'm eating. You should be able to meat your Protein goal even if you can only do 2 oz. at a time. Especially if you can handle your Protein shakes and Greek yogurt. I would say about a month out my day looked something like this: Breakfast: Protein shake Morning Snack: string cheese Lunch: leftovers from a previous dinner or a scrambled egg w/ cheese Afternoon Snack: Greek yogurt Dinner: 2oz. of some recipe (like Shelly's baked ricotta, some sort of tuna salad, pulled chicken in sauce, etc.) Late Snack: Protein Shake That right there is 90 grams of Protein a day, assuming my Protein Shakes had 20 grams each and my lunch and dinner had about 15 grams. Sheran4eva 18 Posted January 25, 2017 Thank you Jamie! I think the other reason I'm not hitting my Protein mark is that I am becoming less enamored with the Protein shakes . I was drinking lean shakes from GNC, but I found myself taking longer and longer to get it down because I don't enjoy it. Spend the entire day sipping one bottle. So now I have found a flavorless Protein powder, but I'm lacking the creativity in my diet. Any suggestions for protein smoothies? What were some of your fav make your own shakes? Thank you for all the very valuable ideas. Right now, the idea of having a string cheese sounds amazing. I'm am going out to store in a few to get some. I have had Shelly's Ricotta bake several times, I can eat about 2-3 oz of that. It varies. I have just stop eating the same things, because I get sick of it. Thanks for letting me know that I am within the norm for being just 36 days post op. Congratulations on your journey and being such an example for all. JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 25, 2017 So, what I did with my shakes post-op was get a bunch or Torani sugar-free syrups and mixed and matched them. I would make a shake with half Water, half soy milk, unflavored Protein powder and then a couple pumps of Torani syrups. I liked orange and vanilla (tastes like a creamsicle), strawberry and vanilla, chocolate and irish cream... I got the lime flavor, but ended up not using that one much. I feel you on being over shakes, though. Literally the first day I was allowed solid food I tried a Protein Bar instead of a shake... took me almost 2 hours to eat the whole thing. But I did pretty much completely switch over to bars. I still have a couple every day!
Schatzi 17 Posted January 27, 2017 I'm 4.5 weeks out. I'm so full and can barely get 4 tbsp (2oz) down each meal. I should be at around 6-8 tbsp (3 to 4 oz) each meal. I'm not reaching my calorie goals at all. I'm close to 300-400 a day. I'm not reaching my Protein intake either. I'm half way through the soft food phase and move to general diet in 1 week. I can't stand my shakes after surgery. I do drink protein2o (15g protein) and Atkins lift (20g protein) but even tho they taste good, I've always been a sipper when it came to flavored drinks and a huge ice Water drinker. Sent from my SM-N910R4 using the BariatricPal App Sounds like you and I are in same boat. Lately, I even lost the desire to drink. I have noticed the colder the beverage, the easier to get down. I'm nowhere close to 64oz of liquid, yesterday, I pushed myself to have 4 cups of Water. It's weird, I was doing so much better immediately post op. MoLiver4u 29 Posted February 1, 2017 I'm in the same boat at 4 weeks out. I don't feel full but if I eat even slightly too much it feels like a lump in my chest that won't go all the way down to my stomach. Not only that, but I even randomly throw up after eating or drinking Protein shakes from, I'm guessing, having too much. Too much is anything over 2oz. I use Protein Water to sip on and I don't mind the shakes. Dannon makes a Triple 0 Oikos Greek Yogurt which has 15g protein and I can eat that without being sick. Cottage cheese and soft cooked eggs are also easy enough to get down. I'm also not getting my fluids down because they are uncomfortable and give me that sitting above my stomach feeling too:( I drink bone broth and I add collagen powder which has 6.6g protein to amp it up. For some reason I find hot beverages easier to get down than cold ones. I actually called my doctor yesterday because he wants me on stage 3 diet but I just can't seem to tolerate it. We'll see what he comes back with.
