I have been reading posts on this site for a while. The posts are so educating. I have learned A LOT about the Gastric Sleeve, the surgery, the diet, problems and successes, you name it. This forum is so encouraging because I know where to go if I have problems. You all are so kind. I want to be like you all.

I am going to my Seminar on Feb. 1st, so I have a way to go before surgery. I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row and get the ball rolling. My insurance will cover the surgery (not all of it of course). United Health Care requires a 6 month documented diet. I was on a 1500 calorie diet last summer for 4 months and I lost 17 pounds. I couldn't do it any more, I was starving. This was from 5/5/16-9/16/16. I started another diet {Low Carb} in October for 3 months. I lost 19 pounds total. I even made it through Thanksgiving and lost weight. This diet was from 10/10/16-1/4/17. My doctor knew about these diets because she told me about the 1500 calorie diet. I went to see her during the diets and she noticed on my chart that I had lost weight. I don't know if she wrote them down or not but, I did. Do you think this would pass for my 6 month documented diet for insurance?

Does the insurance send her a form to fill out for me, do they send it to me to give to her, how does she get it? I want to mention these diets to her to see what she thinks.

Thank you all so much for your friendship... Chris

I've learned that as long as you have however many months your insurance requires documented CONSECUTIVELY by a physician, etc. it will count.

I went to my doc from March to December of 2016. But my doc only documented 3 of the months. My insurance requires 3 consecutive months documented. So I'm having to do it all over again, but with the dietician with my surgeon 's office.

I'm not sure about the forms as my surgeon's office is taking care of it all.

Congrats on your decision! Ditto to what everyone else has said....consecutive visits, one per month...no skipping. I was upset that just when I made THE decision, I had to wait 6 months....but, it went fast, I learned a ton and am thankful for the process. Before you know it, you will be 4 months post-op like me!

I have UHC and I needed 6 consecutive DIETICIAN visits. Check to make sure if it is dietician or just plain doctor documented visits you need. I was told at one time by UHC that I could do 2 in one month. That was incorrect so I had to do 2 extra visits.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
