Recommended Posts

The past week or so I have been lacking the motivation to get up and do anything. I want to exercise and walk and everything but I feel so drained! I am only 3 months out! help!

The best advice I can give you is to just do it. For me the hardest part most days is just getting my shoes on and getting out the door. Make yourself go on a walk even if it's only around the block.

I have my treadmill due to not being able to be out in the cold. (I am allergic to the cold <---- true story). I need to do more than just walk I just have been losing motivation. I am usually highly self motivated too

When I feel this way, I often find a shower helps. Shower, brush teeth, get dressed in workout clothes, get shoes on, and by the time I've done all that, I'm ready to go do.

I know people like to shower after, and I usually do too, but just to get up and going...

This may sound silly but I was tired of the gym - tired of waking up at 4am - tired of prepping everything the night before - just TIRED! So, to make myself feel better I went and bought new tennis shoes and new gym clothes. I like looking cute in the gym and it worked for me.

Motivation is different for everyone. I know by me saying "just get up and do it" that won't help - but find something that you look forward to and get it in that way.

Do you like group classes? Those are always so much fun especially if you go with friends! Accountability buddies are lifesavers when it comes to gym workouts.

I had to find a workout routine that I really liked - as in liked enough to truly enjoy it, not just tolerate or get through. I also found going more often rather than less helped. For whatever reason it's easier for me to go 5-6 times a week rather than just 3 times.

I try to do stuff at home beings I can't afford the gym or anything like that. I did my pilates this morning and plan on doing my treadmill later

Try looking at "tone it up" YouTube videos. The 2 girls Karena and Katrina had a tv show before. They have simple routines you can do at home. Sometimes I think we feel we have to do it all and do it long to make a difference. But just start small and be successful at that then it will motivate you to do more. I think we've all been there. Hang in there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
