I don't think I'd do anything differently. The thing I'm glad I did was follow my doctors orders to the letter, pre and post op.

I'm with ReneK, I wouldn't do anything differently. I did what my Surgeon's Guidelines told me and I followed his instructions totally. I hear people saying all the time that they wish they would have done their Surgery sooner, but for myself, I wouldn't say I wished I had done it sooner. I did check intoit but never had insureance and was raising our family of 4 so there was no way I could pay for it. I truly believe that if I would have had WLS earlier I WAS NOT ready!! Waiting until I was 57 years old. I had grown up so much and was ready to commit to myself. My kids were grown with kids of their own. So for myself waiting was a GREAT GREAT thing for me. I don't even know if I would have had the GRIT to do what I needed to do.

Sleeved 1/12. I'm glad I started drinking Protein Drinks off and on for meals, and taking post op Vitamins before the surgery. Allowed time to try different kinds, and it didn't seem so dramatic when I started the pre op diet and now in the post op diet. Also, get your house / errands in order (as best you can) before surgery - need to rest and let your body heal.

That's why I want to have the surgery right now in my life. No kids, no spouse, just myself. I feel like my life will be much more fulfilling going forward with this tool to keep me in check and keep me healthy :)

That's a good idea, although you kinda already have to do that with the preop diet yeah? Or did you start before that even?

Yes, I started substituting some meals with Protein shakes before even starting the pre op diet. Nothing formal - just here and there. In some cases I found it to be a real convenience when on the go - I would grab a ready-made Premier Protein shake.

I wouldn't buy a bunch of Protein shakes before surgery and I certainly wouldn't start now with substituting meals with them and I say that because I'm soooo sick of shakes! I'd get some flavorless Protein to add to my drinks and food.

What flavorless protein do you recommend?

The only thing I would of done differently was not make a bunch of Jello and buy food before. I ended up throwing all the jello away and since your taste buds WILL CHANGE do not buy bulk food that you used to like Bc chances are they will taste different and you will not like them.

If i knew then what i know now, i wasted so much money stocking up on Protein powders, shakes, syrups, gas x, mouth spray, milo, two and four ounce cups, all stuff I read about here that others loved but I never used. I went overboard and wanted to be prepared and thought I'd be confined to my house for weeks. I was up walking the air conditioned floors of Walmart and target for exercise and recovery three days out. It was august in South Florida.

I settled on premiere protein pretty quick and just used that pre and post op.

I had an easy recovery so never needed gas x or mouth moisture.

I also settled on the PatchMD Vitamins after learning about them postop so I have a cupboard full of pill vitamins I stocked up on and I won't be using them anytime soon.

I should have shopped in goodwill during my drastic weight lost phase especially slacks for work because I sometimes only lasted a week or two in a size.

I wouldn't have stocked up on the same kind of Protein. I have two jugs that I will probably never use.

Yes Protein Powder overload! At thirty dollars a wack! Do not like the taste of most!! I did not need gas x, milk of mag. Rolaids, and the Vitamins my Dr office suggested make me ill! Also are thirty dollars fir a month supply! I changed to a women's multi Vitamin !
Agree with the Jello factor I now totally dislike it! Buy minimal and see what you like AFTER your surgery !! I was sleeved on 1/25 and feel good !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
