Going back to work - 10 hour shifts

Recommended Posts

Surgery is scheduled for January 30th, but I'm trying to get everything at work prepared for when I leave/return, etc.

I currently work 4 days a week, 10-12 hours/day, and am sitting for the majority of that time at my computer, in meetings, etc. where I am not in a position to get up and walk around. I am considering requesting to work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day so I can spread my work out, and be able to fit more breaks/movement in.

Is there anyone that works 10-12 hour days currently (sitting)? Would it make sense to split out my schedule to 5 days so it's not so overwhelming all in the compressed workweek? Any feedback/suggestions, etc. would be helpful!

Yep! I work 10 hours days & often more behind a desk. I went back to work 1 week after surgery (yeah yeah..I know! But it was necessary) and I was fine. I took breaks and went out side and walked when I could. If I got to the point where I couldn't handle it, I went home early but that was better for me than missing the whole day.

The biggest thing was making sure I packed enough of the foods I could have during that time. Luckily we have a fridges here so there was room for Protein drinks and waters.

I think you should keep your schedule as is and do what GaCaldwell does..that extra day off in the beginning would help with the fatigue you may experience.. Packing your own food/snacks is the key everyday. Good luck to you :D

I work 10 hour days, mostly behind a desk, and I went back after one week. Those first few days were tough, but I was getting stir crazy at home, so I had to go back for my own sanity!

I work quite long hours. I am now 8 days post op. I had thought i was okay to go back today, lasted 3 hours and my boss told me i shouldnt be there and he didnt want to see me until thursday. I agree that youre better off doing your shifts but if you feel you cant last the day then head home

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
