When I started my 2 week pre-op diet, I asked my nutritionist about the diet soda. She said that I could have one small soda (a can) a day, so that's what I did. I was a huge diet soda drinker for years. It was hard to cut it out, but after surgery, I don't miss it at all!

The sooner the better. The last thing you want to be trying to do is kick a soda addiction the same time you are trying to recover from surgery.

Right now --- Plus coffee if you drink it. Get the headache's out of the way before surgery.

Best of luck :D

I stopped drinking soda after my first NUT meeting, cold turkey. I switched to crystal light raspberry; keep it in my purse, and make it at home, and honestly it has 100% replaced soda for me easily~

I haven't been able to quit drinking soda. I did for the pre-op diet, but have since started back up. My post-op diet says I can have caffeine free diet soda that is flat, so I pour myself a glass, let it sit for an hour, then drink it.

I stopped drinking soda during my 1 week pre-op liquid diet. I was a big soda drinker too....I LOVE Dr. Pepper. I really thought it was going to be so hard on me to no longer drink it after my surgery, but shockingly, I don't miss it at all. I am so grateful because man is that a lot of sugar and empty calories! Its so strange for me to even think that I haven't had a soda in 5 months! But soooo worth it!

I'd say whenever you can whether having surgery or not. I personally think they're all terrible, diet and regular. Lots of chemicals and sugars our bodies just don't need. But I can sympathize with addictions and know it's got to be hard to give up. I went cold turkey when I found out a flame retardant chemical was found in many of them. Eew.

I quit the day before I had my PCP appointment to start my 6 month supervised diet. It was my biggest supplier of empty calories. 44oz Big Red's from Speedway had to go. The more Water I drank, the more I wanted Water to drink. Someone on a post from this site had a 64 oz container that they ordered from Amazon to make sure they got all their water in for the day. I asked my husband for one for Christmas, it's insulated and keeps the water cold all day. We love it so much that I had to get him his own.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
