Day 4 post op--feeling pretty good!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to drop in and say that I been doing pretty well since my surgery on 9/20. The first and second days were a little rough, but not like I expected--the pain was manageable. Today I feel pretty good, and I'm sticking to my liquids (Water, Protein drinks, Jello, and broth). I've not felt hungry at all (even with all of the food commercials). I don't know how to describe it except food just doesn't seem to be that appealing to me right now. I hope that lasts!!

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I made it and it's going well. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

PS: I did have a slight panic attack on the day after surgery--I remember thinking "Oh my God! What have I done!!" (this was as I was drinking a Protein shake). I remember thinking "Is this the rest of my life?" but then logic kicked in and said, "No...this is only the recovery phase...you'll be able to eat real food again...just smaller portions."

Hope that helps anyone who gets that feeling...I've heard it's quite a normal feeling to get.

I am due to be banded on Sept 26th. It's nice to hear that you are doing well. I am having a rollercoaster of emotions and it is always encouraging to read other peoples experiences.

Congratulations on your speedy recovery. Enjoy not being hungry while it lasts. I am 2 week po and I am defnitely hungry!

You're right, this is just a phase for recovery and soon you will be able to eat again. You will be able to eat regular food, just in smaller portions!

I am 5 days post op, and can totally relate to how you are feeling. I hurt in my chest and back the first few days, and now it's subsided and I feel like myself again. It was rough. I also do not have any craving for food right now and I had the same doubts, even some depression, if you can believe that. I have lost 9 pounds since the surgery, 16 since I started my pre op diet. I know I will be able to eat normal food again, just not right now while I am healing, and that's okay.:car:

I wish you the best of luck!

Tulipstar, you mean I'm gonna feel hungry again??? :) lol

I hope it holds off a bit...it's kinda nice not being "ruled by food" right now. I appreciate everyone's kind feedback and encouragement!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
