ANYONE FEEL LIKE IT WAS A "WASTE"?

Recommended Posts

all of the prep work.. i really only feel like i did the best while i was on the pureed stage (when you're so limited it's no wonder you're losing)

stalled for abt 5+ months now.. i get that you get out what you put in.. i need to work on my Water intake & exercise.. however, after only hovering @ abt a 50lbs loss in over a yr, i eat very clean, i just think too much @ once... i'm almost like why did i even bother. ??!!

wondering if anyone else felt the same

feels like my "tool" isn't working!

Well I am sure you will hear from others it is not magic bullet it is tool. You have to eat according to plan in content and amount not just healthy food. And exercise is critical.

I am thankful. I have lost over 120 in 7 months. I eat according to surgeon's office plan and work out 5-6 times per week with 3 days of weights.

Review what you are supposed to be doing, Celebrate what you have achieved (50 lbs is significant!), and change what you know you need to for today and tomorrow. Good luck!

wow, congrats!!! and Ty! so I have to ask, have you been monitoring calories/portions? I am luckily a very clean eater, I've always felt that I've been able to eat more that i prob should, although I've also ready that stretching is not possible (still out on that!) and again I need to tackle the H20 & exercise

Yes I do monitor portions not calories really. But I track religiously. I don't weigh everything like when I am eating outside of home but I don't deviate into carb heavy foods just because I am eating out. After measuring everything all the time, I think my Protein estimates are pretty good.

I use my Fitbit to track exercise, food and Water. I get my Protein shakes and Water intake goals everyday.

My surgeon office has also been strong on saying those who succeed and sustain exercise. So that motivates me.

I think we all know in our head if we aren't doing everything on track..I guess my question is..can you really feel..why did I bother when you lost 50 lbs and also know you need to do better on Water and exercise? I'm a lower BMI and I am losing weight pretty slow..but I also know if I haven't had a successful week..I evaluate what I could have done better and try to readjust for the next week.

A little over 50 lbs is my top weight loss goal..so I say..WOW 50 lbs in 5 months..give me some of that success!!!

So maybe you need to readjust your thinking first and say..wow..go me!!! I'm 50 lbs less than I was and I got this!

Just get that Water in and start getting that exercise in and see if you break that stall. You might surprise yourself. Good luck ((HUGS))

Everybody is different. But I too believe exercise plays a huge role in weight loss. Clean eating is great. I had surgery March 29th 2016, SW 240, CW 136. I work out an hour, six days p/week, plus no carbs 5 days p/week. For me, it's been realizing the daily carb intake makes me gain. And, makes me want more carbs, so it's a slippery slope. 50 lbs is fantastic, you should be proud of that loss! Good luck in your journey and figuring out what works best for you.

Honestly, the only advice I have is probably what you've heard before...

talk to a nutritionist, measure and track everything and I mean EVERYTHING, and get that Water in!! :)

I'm sure it's frustrating but you've successfully lost 50lbs. That's a large amount of weight! Just don't give up!

My concern is, we can eat so little..sounds like we can gain or not lose on 1/4 of the food we could eat before if it's not the right food. If so, then yes, this was a waste.

I'm not sure exercise is so critical for weight loss, but I know it's critical for health. I can exercise vigorously for a week and lose ounces but track Protein and Water and meet my goals there, which makes the scale move.

My understanding of why exercise is important:

The muscles store glycogen (sugar) for quick use.

1. If you don't exercise and eat less: the body starts mobilizing fat and muscle to fuel the body. Turns them into sugar in the blood, the muscles are still full of glycogen, so there is nowhere for the sugar to go, so it gets converted back into fat.

2. If you diet and exercise:

The muscles use up their stores of glycogen, so the sugar in the blood has a place to go!

Also, if the body is using its muscles, it won't be in a hurry to break them down to use for fuel. If the muscles aren't being used, it is easier for the body to convert muscle to sugar than fat, so it will select muscle first.

That last sentence could be confusing. I'll clarify it:

It is easier for the body to convert muscle to sugar than it is to convert fat to sugar. So it will select unused muscle first.

And, why does the body want to turn anything into sugar? The brain's only fuel is sugar (not fat or protein), and it needs a constant, steady supply. If you don't eat enough, the body will go looking!

Pre-op here so I can't speak to anything specific to the WLS, but I have lots of experience with tracking food so I thought I would chime in. Take this newbie's advice with a grain of salt. :)

Do you keep a food journal? My dietitian told me those who keep a journal (even if not necessarily counting calories) lose 2x the weight as those who don't. It might be worth just taking 4-5 days to actually track every calorie, by weight, just to make sure you're eating the portions you think you are. I read a study that says obese people are X times more likely (can't remember the statistic) to underestimate portion size than normal weight people. Crazy!!!

WLS is never a waste.

What is, is not using the great tool we have to reach our goals. Now that IS a waste.

We have all been given a second chance to reclaim our health and wellbeing. Is it easy? No, at times it isn't. Do we have bad days? Sure we all do. Do we know what to do when we start gaining? of course we do. Its the ability to be really honest with ourselves which will keep us on track.

Go back to basics. Water, Protein, good carbs. Record your intake, exercise, feelings. See if there is a pattern when you go off track.

You CAN do this !!

Best of luck

Kate

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
