Anyone else gain a few pounds back starting puree?

Recommended Posts

Yeah! I just started puree food and I stopped loosing weight. It's a little scary. I'm going to try and walk for longer to see if that helps. Also having trouble getting all my protien in.

I just got off Clear liquids diet Friday and weighed 232. Now that I've been eating puree mostly yogurt and Protein Meal Replacement I have gained 3 pounds back. I was sleeved Jan 13. I know... Way too early to worry about much just curious. My starting weight was 248.

i haven't had my surgery yet I am on the pre opp diet and I found a Protein mix called GENE PRO 1 tablespoon equals to 30 grams of protein, tasteless and dissolve fast and doesn't thicken your drink. I mix it in 2oz of fluids wether it's coffee or crystal light. Good luck

I guess I am in the 3 week stall. No weight loss week 3 to 4 so far. Have increased walking time to 45 mins per day, but still just a brisk walk.

This is completely normal.

The puréed foods stage usually coincides with the Third Week Stall that 99% of us have gone through. A little weight gain is normal right before a stall due to glycogen storage.

I started my all liquid pre-op diet 272 on 1/17 and lost 18lbs. Day of surgery I weighed 254 and they started me on puréed foods on day 2 at the hospital, came home and weighed 262. I'm now 9 days post-op and I weigh 250. So while it's only 4 lbs down since surgery. I'm also eating three puréed meals a day and drinking my shakes and working up to 64 oz of liquids.
I believe that the puréed food stage does stall the weight loss for a bit. And it's totally normal. My doc said not to worry so I'm not going to worry. Just keep up with getting your liquids and Protein in. Exercise once a day or walk or whatever type of movement works for you and you'll be fine.

Sorry. Not trying to be offensive by any means. This is why I don't and won't be weighing myself (I'll let the doc do this). Stalls will happen. Focus on how good you feel and how the clothes are feeling bigger, etc. Focus on doing what the doc has given you to do. Put your mind to other matters than numbers on a scale. Save yourself the stress and headache of worrying. Many blessings on your journey!!!

Please understand with as little calories and Protein you're consuming right now, more exercise can be counter productive and cause you to actually hold onto weight.

Exercising more that early out will not help the stall. Keep getting your fluids and Protein and just let yourself heal. Walking is great, and keep doing it, but be careful not to go overboard. This is healing time, not weight loss time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
